Jake Owen’s web page says that since the age of 12, he wanted to be a professional golfer. “I was determined golf was going to be my life,” Owen said in the “About” section of his site. He stopped playing golf when he was injured in an accident, and it was then he picked up the guitar.
I think all of Jake’s fans would agree that the accident did indeed turn out to be a “blessing in disguise”. Owen tells us on his web page that he grew up listening to classic country music, Waylon Jennings, Merle Haggard. My dad loved Vern Gosdin and Keith Whitley. “So I kept going to class (at Florida State University) and started getting totally into playing guitar and teaching myself these songs.”
He has a great story to tell, and you can find it all at his web site. Jake will be in Tallahassee in April, as well as York, Pa., Dover, Del., Orlando and Indianapolis, Inc.
Some of the songs included in Jake’s current CD “Starting With Me,” are Something About A Woman; Hard Not To Love You, and one of my favorites, Long Night With You. Jake’s current single, Something About A Woman, is No. 20, on Billboard’s Top Country Chart.
I’ve never seen Jake in concert, and the credit for these pictures goes to Brittany in Johnson City. I believe she took them at the Greene County Fair in Greeneville, TN back in 2006.
Dinner is about to come out of the oven, so I’ll call it a night here. You guys take care! Write, and have a great Sunday.
