REBASRANCHHOUSE1 I’d like to tell you all about something that was brought to my attention in an e-mail I received from Tracey, an administrator for Secret of Giving. This is such a heartwarming story. I really appreciate Tracey sharing this with me.

The house you are looking at is Reba’s Ranch House. It is located in Denison, Texas, and provides a home-away-from home for families of critically ill patients, who are hospitalized at Texoma Medical Center. The Ranch House was built in 1992, with money raised at Reba McEntire’s Memorial Day concerts.

More than 23,000 people, representing 8,400 families, have found the comforts of home at the Ranch House during their time in need. The cost to stay at the Ranch House is only $15 per night, or free, depending on their ability to pay. Community organizations and churches often donate meals for Ranch House guests.

Reba 1 While all of that is absolutely wonderful in itself, I think what makes this even more special is the task that Reba’s fans have taken on themselves. The Secret of Giving is an organization founded by Rhonda Goss. The purpose of the organization is to help raise money to support Reba’s Ranch House. Rhonda is a long-time Reba fan, and hopes other fans will join her in her efforts to keep Reba’s Ranch House going strong, so many more people will have this facility available, should they ever need to use it.

Reba said, in a quote on Texoma Medical Center’s web page, "I wanted the Ranch House to offer its guests all the comforts of home:  a place to rest and relax among people who care, an affordable haven for people who are lonely and afraid."

RRH marker 2 In an e-mail from Rhonda, she had this to say: "We have done this all by word of mouth and as of right now we have raised 1,918.44 all from her everyday fans just to say thanks for all the wonderful years Reba has entertained her fans. We are also honoring the Crazy 8, they were her band that perished in the crash, but were with her during the 5 years of raising the money to get the RRH up and running, but perished before it open. But I know they are looking down from  heaven above and are very pleased on the outcome. Lastly, we wanted to help all those families in need that utilize the house Reba’s Ranch House is very near and dear to Reba’s heart aka her baby. Reba has done so much for her fans that it’s time we stand up and honor her in a way that has never been done before. ( JUST TO SAY THANKS) Reba has the most humble fans."  (The marker at the right is at the Ranch House, and lists the names of her band members and the instruments they played).

The Secret of Giving Web site says "if we raise enough money, we can sponsor a room in the name of the Secret of Giving. No one else has ever done this before, and we would be the first." This room would be sponsored by Reba McEntire fans, to give back to Reba a little of what she’s given to all of us during her career. I for one think it’s wonderful.

I realize we’re all living in tough economic times. But I hope you will give serious consideration to making a $5 or $10 donation to this charity. They will graciously accept any amount you can give. (And if I’ve got anyone like Bill Gates reading my web site, who could afford to send a bit more, they will be happy to get that, too.smile_nerd) Contributions need to be mailed to: Reba’s Ranch House Endowment, c/o Secret of Giving, 305 W. Woodard, Suite 220, Denison, TX 75020.

Now, remember everyone, the people involved with Secret of Giving are Reba fans, like me and you. And they aren’t asking for a million dollars. They are only hoping that we can all send a little bit, to what I believe is a very worthwhile charity. Thank you, Rhonda for the information you provided. Thank you Tracey, for bringing this to my attention. And, Thank you, Reba McEntire – for providing this wonderful place to people who need it.

I’ll talk to you all later, thanks for reading, thanks for writing – keep in touch.
Love ya,
