Former American Idol contestant, Kristy Lee Cook, signed with Artisa records this past summer. She had one song released, that I know of, called “15 Minutes of Shame,” but I never heard it. It wasn’t on the radio around here – and I have no idea if it was on the radio anywhere else.
Kristy Lee has left Artisa, but she didn’t leave to sign with someone else. At least not yet. I don’t know where she’s headed from here. I just hope she has something planned.
I don’t blame Kristy for her lack of success in the country music world. I kind of blame whoever is promoting her. It takes a lot of hard work, a lot of smiles, and a lot of miles traveled to get your name and music out there.
I’ve not seen her in Wal-Mart autographing her CD for fans. I’ve not seen her at local radio stations while on a national “I’m Kristy Lee, please play my music” tour. Someone should be behind her, giving her a little push in the right direction. (This, believe it or not, is Phil Vassar at the Bristol Wal-Mat in 2000. Now there’s one who has changed a lot over the past eight years. I’ve had the chance to talk to Phil on several occasions, and I have to tell you, he’s just super nice!)
Our local Wal-Mart had Phil Vassar and Rodney Adkins when they were first starting out, and our Super K-Mart had Kenny Chesney! (Yep, that’s Kenny Chesney with WXBQ’s Reggie Neel). And, Randy Houser who now has the No. 16 song in the country, did a free concert at Winged Deer Park in Johnson City back in the summer. That was a great way to spend a summer evening. Randy sang right in front of the lake, and the boats were coming in to listen. We had a super time. And Randy spent so much time with all of his fans. I know everyone is looking forward to having him back in this area again soon.
I’ll keep my eyes and ears open to see who we’ll be able to find at our local Wal-Mart promoting their next CD. We just got a new Wal-Mart right here in my home town. So when everyone is getting their little “meet the fans at Wal-Mart" tour put together, remember me!
WXBQ, the best radio station in the world, has had Kellie Pickler, Carrie Underwood, Carters Chord, and about a million other singers stop by their station for a quick on-air interview. That’s how it’s done. You can’t just cut a record and sit back and wait for something to happen. You have to sell yourself. I don’t believe Kristy was given the chance to do that. (But, that’s just my opinion… and usually when I have an opinion, I just can’t keep it to myself)
That’s Randy Houser with Reggie Neel and Bill Hagy from WXBQ. Reggie is our 10-3 on-air guy, and a super nice person. Bill is our station manager at WXBQ, and always plans a lot of fun stuff for his listeners. And, here’s one of Carrie Underwood with Marc Tragler that was taken when she visited the radio station back in March. Tragler covers the airwaves from 3-7 p.m. weekdays.
That’s all for tonight. Remember to send in your entry for the contest to win Toby’s great Christmas Classic CD. Talk to you all real soon!
