I have a feeling this is going to be short and sweet. I have a busy day ahead of me. church, lunch, laundry, football. (And that last part will come with snacks, drinks, running back and forth to the kitchen trying to keep everyone fed – and hopefully keep them from spilling everything I carry down to the family room).
So here’s a little of what you can look for when the Superbowl starts this evening. Faith Hill will be on hand to sing “America the Beautiful.” You all know that one – it’s the one I think should be our national anthem…great lyrics, a melody most people can sing. There’s something about purple mountains, amber waves of grain, and sea to shining sea, that sounds more like a national anthem than bombs bursting in air. I’m climbing down from my soapbox now. I’ll petition to change our national anthem another day.
Jennifer Hudson, former American Idol contestant and now Oscar winning actress, will open the game with the National Anthem. I’m sure she’ll do great with that song. I remember some of the people who have gotten to sing our anthem at the start of other sporting events, and a few definitely come to mind who just shouldn’t have even tried.
The halftime show will include Bruce Springsteen and his E Street Band. That sounds like a good time to run back to the kitchen and fix some little pizza rolls or something (just so I make it back to the big screen television in time for the commercials).
I’m not sure how much Springsteen we’ll actually get. He has 12 minutes. And he has a lot of songs. I think he will probably want to do little bits of as many as he can fit into that 12 minutes.
You guys enjoy your Superbowl Sunday, I’m going to get myself moving here, and hopefully have everything done before the afternoon show starts.
More later. Hope YOUR favorite team wins!
