I’ll be the first one to admit that I didn’t watch a whole lot of the Grammy awards on Sunday night. I guess mostly because I didn’t hardly know anyone. I knew the country ones, I knew the ones who are supposed to be country but I don’t think they are (like Kid Rock, Robert Plant, you all know who I mean) … and besides, even if we missed the show (or most of it), you can find all kinds of videos on YouTube, and all kinds of photos on all over the Internet, and you can find lists of people who won … So I guess we didn’t miss too much anyway.
I was a little disappointed that some of my favorite country artists didn’t win, like Lady Antebellum for best newcomer, and Jamey Johnson for In Color. But I was very glad to see that with 58 number one singles, countless gold and platinum albums, and more ACM and CMA awards than we can county – George Strait finally got his first Grammy.
Here’s George with Kate and Kacey Coppola, who wrote one of the songs on his Grammy-winning Troubadour CD.
I guess the awards aren’t quite as important as the fans. As long as we’re buying the CDs and concert tickets, and calling our favorite radio station to request the songs we want to hear – the awards are probably just a little icing on the cake to these entertainers. But I like it that way. That tells you we are the reason George has 58 number one records, and only one Grammy. We didn’t get to vote. But, we definitely do our kind of voting in the record department of our favorite store, and in the ticket line buying our concert tickets.
I have always been a Carrie Underwood fan, so it was nice to see her pick up a Grammy on Sunday’s show. I don’t much care for that song though. She could have won it for absolutely anything else she’s done and I would have been even happier. And that outfit. The girls has got some great legs, but the outfit just wasn’t pretty.
Best Male Country Performance went to Brad Paisley for “Letter to Me.” Best Country Performance by a Duo or Group went to Sugarland for “Stay.” You can find the complete list of Grammy winners here.
And when I say complete list, I mean it. They’ve got it all including awards I didn’t even know about: Best Long Form Music Video; Best Choral Performance; Best Opera Recording; Best Classical Vocal Performance; Best Comedy Album; Best Regional Mexican Album…. and the list goes on.
What did you think of Miley and Taylor’s duet? I’m going to hold my opinion on this one until I hear what you guys have to say about it. What did you like best about the show? What was your favorite performance?
That’s all for now. I’ll talk to you soon. There seems to be a lot going on in country music right now. My mail is now totally caught up … I think. I have to run over to the mailbox and see what awaits me. But if you wrote, I will be able to get back to you really fast! You guys take care, talk to you soon!
