While we are busy getting ready for our first-ever county Concert for a Cure, to benefit our local Relay For Life teams and the American Cancer Society, it appears there are plenty of other fund raising concerts taking place around the country.
Our local concert, which will headline Randy Houser, with opening act Matt Stillwell, will be held Tuesday, May 5, at the Unicoi County High School auditorium. There are still tickets available by calling 423-743-4112. Tickets purchased with a credit card can be picked up the night of the concert. Or, if you’re in the area, stop by The Erwin Record office at 218 Gay St., Erwin, to get your tickets. Tickets are $25 each.
Reba McEntire and Phil Vassar are two other artists that recently put on concerts for various causes.
Reba McEntire recently did a concert to benefit the Teachers, Coaches and Students Foundation, which was created by former students of Coach Richard Carlini to pay for his medical expenses. Carlini coached at Marine West High School in Des Plaines, Ill. He suffers from AVM (arteriovenous malformation).
Just this past Friday night, Phil Vassar did a concert to benefit The Miller Home in his hometown of Lynchburg, Va. This organization does not accept any money from the sate, and fund raisers are their primary source of revenue. Every year, they have golf tournaments and bake sales, but the concert Phil did Friday night was their first fund raiser of this size.
Those of us who will see our local chapter of the American Cancer Society benefit from the concert Randy and Matt are doing, and those beneficiaries of the concerts Reba and Phil did recently, are grateful to these talented entertainers. I think it’s wonderful that they take the time out of their very busy schedules to do something for someone else. I hope these guys know how very much we all appreciate them.
I’m still not sure if I put these little videos up for you … or if I put them up for me. but here’s one of Phil’s that I’ve always liked…. It’s “I’ll Take That as a Yes.”
That’ll do it for now. Back soon! Sorry about not getting in my e-mail for a few days, but I’ll take care of that just as quickly as I can! I’ll talk to you all tomorrow!
