Since I didn’t get to the CMA Music Festival this year, and a lot of you have been asking about the event, I have to send out a very huge thank you to Tawny Tucker from Country Music Tattle Tale for sharing her photos. Tawny and Country Girl were at the four-day event in Nashville. Thanks ladies, for letting me use some of your great photos and info.
Thursday night was the first concert at L.P. Field. And it turned out to be a bit of a disaster for festival-goers. Brooks and Dunn opened the show with all of their favorites, and Reba joined them for “Cowgirls Don’t Cry.” “The stadium erupted with excitement, Afrer all, it’s been a while since Reba performed at CMA Fest,” Tawny from CMTT said.
Reba closed her set with “Strange,” and Tawny said that was when things got strange. GAC host Storme Warren interrupted Reba, and everyone was told to clear the field because a storm was coming. A rain delay of more than two hours followed.
Julianne Hough, Jimmy Wayne and Rascal Flatts didn’t stay to perform after the delay, because they had other engagements. And the entertainers who did stay didn’t do their full show. They did about 10 minutes each. Tawny said that was a little disappointing after they all waited out the delay to see what they hoped would be a full show.
However, CMTT said Darius Rucker, Dierks Bentley and Brad Paisley looked like “they could’ve performed all night”. Darius even ran out through the crowd, I love when the entertainers do that. (I think Trent Tomlinson was the first one I saw do that, then Craig Morgan, and then Josh Gracin. If it’s a growing trend in country music, I like it.)
Country Girl also had nothing but great things to say about Darius, Dierks and Brad. These guys obviously know that if you go out of your way to do nice things for your fans, they are going to stay your fans forever. These entertainers waited out the rain with the fans, and then put on a fantastic show for them.
The pictures in this post (from CMA Music Festival) are all from our CMTT friends. And you can see more of their great pictures on Flickr.
This shot is from Friday night, but I put it up with today’s post just because I think this man is absolutely one of the greatest entertainer in country music today. Jake Owen, who I got to meet last year at our Appalachian Fair, is one very special country artist. He went out of his way to spend time with fans, fair employees, radio personalities, just everyone. Even the people who had exhibits set up at the fairgrounds became friends of Jake for the evening. And of course he put on a fantastic show! We’re going to have Jake back in September 2009 at our Washington County Fair, and I’ll be there, too.
Any of you who missed it this year, start making your plans for next year. And be sure to check out CMTT for more pictures and articles about this year’s great event. I’ve got to head to the office. You guys try to enjoy your Monday. I’ll talk to you soon. And thanks again, Tawny and Country Girl for the pictures and the info!
