With “Small Town U.S.A.” already up to No. 24 on country’s top 40 chart, and a really successful single with “Back That Thing Up,” I thought it was time we say something about Justin Moore.
I saw Justin with Lance Smith on CMT’s video countdown this past week. And, of course since he was the guest, we got to see the video for “Small Town U.S.A.” and “Back That Thing Up.” I always enjoy getting to see interviews on shows like this. Most of the entertainers seem as if they’re just talking over a cup of coffee, and completely ignore the fact that there are cameras and lights around them. Justin came off as being a very easy-going, laid-back kind of guy. He’s a very likeable young man.
Justin’s MySpace bio tells us he moved to Nashville right out of high school. He was from Poyen, Arkansas (population 272), and had been raised by his mom and dad, Tommy Ray and Charlene Moore. The family had 100 acres of land. Justin says you really have to go to Poyen to understand just how “small town” it is. There are no street lights, mostly dirt roads, a florist in an old trailer and a filling station.
Justin said his grandma and grandpa raised cattle, and he would help feed the herd, bush hog the fields and learn about hard work as a young boy. His other grandparents lived a mile down the road, and “PaPa” taught Justin to fish and hunt and had him in a deer stand hunting before he was 1 year old.”
Justin started singing when he was 2, and won his first talent contest when he was 8 years old. He grew up singing gospel music at church and listening to country music. His bio says he’s a “student of the genre and can literally sing you thousands of country songs, from old to new, word for word, melody perfect!”
In 2008, Justin toured with Trace Adkins, Luke Bryant, Lynyrd Skynrd and Hank Williams Jr. He also did a show with ZZ Top and Brooks and Dunn that year. Be sure to visit his MySpace page to read all the info about this rising country artist.
I noticed on his show schedule that he will be in Augusta, Ga., on June 12, and El Paso, Texas, on June 14 – but CMA Festival Goers will get to see him in Nashville on June 13, on the Sommet Center stage at 8 p.m.
When Justin was on CMT with Lance, he mentioned all the beautiful ladies in his first video, and that his wife is in the new video for “Small Town U.S.A.” We don’t have that one for you, but here’s all those pretty ladies, and Justin of course, with “Back That Thing Up.”
I’ll talk to you all later. Heading for church, and for wherever else looks like fun today. Talk to you all soon.
