I read e-mail tonight, one after another. And I found out quickly that a number of our favorite country favorites are getting ready to give us some new music.
One of the first will come from George Strait. I love that man. Back to the CDs. George will follow up his #1, platinum-certified Troubadour, with TWANG (CD cover at left). Troubadour was named Best Country Album at the 2009 Grammy Awards. George has sold more than 67 million albums throughout his record-breaking career and is currently in third place on the all-time platinum/multi-platinum album certification list, behind The Beatles and Elvis Presley.
TWANG, George’s 38th album, is set for release on August 11 and features the hit single "Living For The Night" (co-written by George, his son Bubba and Dean Dillon), which has hit the Top 15 in just 3 weeks. “Living For The Night” marks the first time George has penned a song since “I Can’t See Texas From Here” from his 1982 debut – Strait Country. Strait co-wrote two additional songs on TWANG – “He’s Got That Something Special” and “Out Of Sight Out Of Mind.”
The CD will include 13 songs. I’m hoping to have a copy before the Aug. 11 release date, so I’ll tell you more about it then. I’m really looking forward to this one.
Carrie Underwood will be sending some new music our way later this year. The release date for her new CD is Nov. 3. This CD will be produced by Mark Bright, who collaborated with Carrie on “Carnival Ride,” and seven tracks from her debut disc, “Some Hearts.” The CD is unnamed at this time, but a single should be released to radio stations later this summer.
Joining the list of CDs to be released in the weeks and months ahead, we can add a DVD of a country superstar in England … “Dolly Live in London’ is also scheduled to get in stores in November. The DVD was recorded during Dolly’s 2008 UK tour, and will include many of her most recognizable hits, like “Jolene” and “Coat of Many Colors.” Anyone who has ever seen Dolly perform live knows that her shows always include wit, wisdom, comedy and personality. This one just might be another stocking stuffer at my house this Christmas. I’m serious – Christmas is only 170 days away.
Hard to believe that Tim McGraw hasn’t given us anything new for more than two years, but he is planning to release “Southern Voice,” this fall. The CD is said to be a little different from anything Tim has done before, pushing the boundaries of country music. The albums’ first single, “It’s a Business Doing Pleasure With You,” is already playing on radio stations across the country. It is different, and I like it.
I think Jack Ingram is a fantastic entertainer. And I’ve been waiting for his new CD, but apparently we’re all going to have to wait a little longer. His new CD, “Big Dreams and High Hopes.” is having a little more work done on it. Jack decided he needed to go back into the studio to cut some songs with a little more of a rock edge. It will be interesting to find out just what Jack does with the songs. “Sorry, I know it’s going to cost a little more money and take a little more time, but I got to make it right or else it’s not wroth it for me,” Jack said.
We don’t want to forget some of the CD’s that came out recently. Brad Paisley released his eighth album, “American Saturday Night,” on June 30. That was just before heading out on tour with Dierks Bentley and Jimmy Wayne opening for him. This is a really good CD, but then – everything Brad does is great.
Check out the web sites for these artists, you might find some of them in your back yard before the summer is over. With Fairs, Concerts, and outdoor shows everywhere during the summer and fall months, it’s a great opportunity to see some of our favorite country artists, without traveling too far from home or spending lots of money.
That’s all for this morning. I need to get to work. I’ll talk to you guys real soon. Sorry I didn’t get any mail answered last night – but I have that in the number one position on my “To Do” list for this evening! You guys have a great Wednesday!
