Dollys musical Dolly Parton had a short run on Broadway, with her musical version of the movie “9 to 5”. The show opened in April, and unfortunately, it will be closing on Sept. 1. While it might be done on Broadway, the show is hitting the road, and it may be coming to a city near you.

I really thought that “9 to 5” might actually be a successful play. But with economic times like they are, I guess not quite as many people are going to the theater as once did.

believers_300x250 Is that a bad sign for Joe Nichols and the musical version of “Pure Country”. I guess we’ll have to wait and see.

The Broadway production is based on the 1992 movie, staring George Strait. And it was recently announced that Lorrie Morgan will be joining the cast in the role of Lula. That role was played by Lesley Ann Warren in the movie.

Joe will be playing the part of Rusty. In the movie, George’s name was Dusty not Rusty. I’m really not sure why they changed it for the Broadway play. I don’t think they needed to, but then, I won’t even pretend I know anything about Broadway musicals – so I’m sure they had their reasons.

Morgan(8) I’m sure Lorrie will be good in the part of Rusty’s manager (or Dusty). I never saw her do any acting, but I’ve always liked her music. She’s been singing since she was 13, when she appeared on the Grand Ole Opry, and began recording. She was the first female country singer with three consecutive albums certified platinum. Each one having sold more than one million copies.

In an interview at TicketNews, Lorrie said, “I never thought my life’s path would take me to Broadway, but when I heard they were creating a musical based on one of country music’s best-loved films, I knew I had to be part of it,” Morgan said of her involvement with the project. “I’m very excited about making my Broadway debut and becoming part of the theater community. I’m also looking forward to working with Joe Nichols. He’s an amazing talent, and I hope country fans come on up to the big city to see us.”

The play is scheduled to open in April 2010.

That’s all for right now. I’ll talk to you all soon.
