Hey Bucky Covington fans, listen up. What are you guys doing on Saturday night, Sept. 26? How would you like to go to a free concert – with none other than Bucky Covington? Bucky will take the stage at 7 p.m., as a way of giving back to the community that has supported him over the years. The event will be in his hometown of Rockingham, N.C., at Harrington Square.
Rockingham, N.C. (according to the driving directions on Google Maps) is about 4 hours from me. And, it’s a Saturday. I could do that. We’ll just have to see how plans work out. I think it will be a great show, and a fun trip. I’ll give it some thought.
Since he appeared on American Idol, he has had three Top 10 singles. He also had the best-selling debut release of 2007 … and now, he’s going back for his first hometown concert.
“When I was on American Idol the whole town pulled together – all of the business, churches – everyone. They all went above and beyond to help out and show me their support," remembers Bucky. "Now it’s my time to give back."
Bucky also has activities planned that include taking part in the local BackPack Pals outreach program, which provides nutritional weekend meals and snacks to children whose primary source of food is their school cafeteria. People attending the concert are being asked to bring a canned good or other non-perishable food item to help support the community BackPack Pals program, and Our Daily Bread Christian Food Ministry.
BackPack Pals is an outreach program of Helping Hands of Hamlet, a program that began back in 2007. The purpose of the program is to provide food to children identified by school staff as those who have little or nothing to eat on the weekends. The school year for 2008-2009 fed 320 students each weekend.
Bucky is going to be in Pittsburgh, Pa., tonight. He has Sept. 29 in Ocala, Fla., and Oct. 2 in St. Albans, W.V. Then on Oct. 9, he’s headed back to Florida for a show in Ft. Meyers. The only Tennessee show he has up on his schedule right now is one in Memphis at the Memphis Motorsports Park on Oct. 24, and that concert will be right after the race.
You can check out his schedule on his web site. And a lot of the shows have Meet & Greets available, too. It doesn’t look like he’s having a Meet and Greet in Rockingham next Saturday night. If he is, the passes must be gone already.
Here’s a little Bucky for you – “A Different World”. that really seems like a long time ago.
I better go, busy Saturday planned, and Jake Owen tonight! Talk to you all soon.
