Two more of our great country entertainers are heading overseas as part of the Stars for Stripes tour. Chris Young and Craig Morgan will join Stars for Stripes, GAC and Armed Forces entertainment to take a little bit of home to military personnel.
I had the opportunity to interview Craig a few years ago, when he was performing at our Appalachian Fair in Gray, Tenn. Craig was nice enough to stop by a local western clothing store to do a little autograph signing and posing for photos. And, I actually got to spend a few hours with him to get an interview for our local newspaper. It was really nice getting to speak with him and get the interview. I hope he gets back to this area again sometime. That was the only time I had ever seen him perform, and I really had a great time at the show.
These will be acoustic concerts at military bases and hospitals in Iraq and Germany. Craig was the first artist to perform on a Stars for Stripes/Armed Forces Entertainment event in 2003. He told The Boot – "This will be my sixth trip to entertain and visit with the men and women of the Armed Forces. I know firsthand what it’s like to be deployed overseas away from your loved ones, and it’s an honor to be able to take a little piece of home to them with this tour. It is encouraging to see the advances that have been made over the years in an effort to establish peace and democracy."
The photo at the right is also from the Appalachian Fair, a few years after Craig was there. Chris has been back to this area since, very recently – on a promotion tour for his new CD. He’s always super nice to the people who come out to see him.
Nan Kelley, one of the hosts on GAC, will go along as the guest emcee at each stop on the tour. The trip will also be filmed for a GAC television special that is scheduled to air in December.
Craig currently has the No. 18 song on country’s Top 40 chart, with “Bonfire”, and Chris is sitting pretty at No. 3, with “Getting You Home”. Both of the guys have a lot of dates up on their schedules, so it looks like they will be real busy when they get back from their trip overseas.
I’ve put up this video before, but it’s one of my favorite – it’s Chris Young and the sheep incident. If you haven’t seen it before, you’re going to like it. If you have seen it before, you probably want to see it again.
Talk to you all soon. It’s Thursday, so that means I’ll be answering e-mail tonight. If I owe you one, I should be able to get you answered then. Have a great day, and write when you have a minute.
