Yesterday, we got a list form Billboard.com of the top 25 highest grossing touring acts in the past decade. I like lists – well, maybe I just like that kind of statistic – but whatever it is I like, our friends over at The Boot have given us another stat. This one is for 2009 – and it is again a Billboard stat.
Billboard has named Justin Moore Top New Country Artist of 2009. Justin’s debut single, “Small Town U.S.A.” climbed to No. 1 on the country charts, and his album debuted in the Top 5. His current single, “Backwoods,” is currently climbing the country charts.
"It sticks the cherry on top," Justin tells The Boot. "We don’t get into this business — or I didn’t, anyway — to win awards and that kind of stuff, but it’s cool. It’s pretty humbling to know that everybody in this industry from country radio to you guys have embraced me as early on in my career as they have. It’s very, very exciting. We’ve had a huge year with ‘Small Town U.S.A.’ doing so well for us and our record coming out and debuting as high as it did, and we’ve been selling a lot more. That’s not something I got into it for, but it makes me feel really good that everybody voted on me for that."
Justin will be touring with Brad Paisley, as he joins the last leg of the American Saturday Night Tour with Brad and Miranda Lambert on Jan. 7. Justin and his wife are expecting their first child later in January. Back in Sept. 17, I told you about the new addition to the Moore family, and that they are expecting a little girl, whose name will be Ella Cole.
While the tour with Brad doesn’t start until Jan. 7, Justin isn’t just sitting around waiting for it to begin. upcoming shows on his web site are from now through March 20, 2010. Seven of those shows are with Brad. That Brad Paisley tour is going to land in my backyard (well, almost) on March 5, when it hits Knoxville. To get Justin’s entire posted schedule, just click here.
Would Justin have been my personal choice for Top New Country Artist for 2009? Let’s just say he would definitely have made my short list. I’m just glad I didn’t have any part in picking the “Top” one – because I don’t think I could have done it! With Darius, Jamey, Randy and a host of other new artists coming our way this year, it would have been a very tough choice for me!
Here’s one of the reasons the kid made it to the top – his No. 1 single, “Small Town U.S.A.”
That’s it for now — wow, 10 days till Christmas! Everybody ready? And no, my tree is still not up. But, I have very big plans for that happening tonight when I get home from work. Talk to you all soon!
