I never say a lot about Keith Urban. I don’t know why not. It certainly isn’t because I don’t like him. I like him a lot. And though I sometimes listen to his music, and have a bit of trouble finding “country” – I’m still not saying I don’t like him. I just don’t often write about him — I need to change that.
With a little help from the ladies at Country Music Tattle Tale, I have some things I can say about Keith, as 2009 comes to an end. They had a post up called Oh What a Year for Keith Urban – and I’m going to use a little of their information, and a little I’ve found out, to tell you exactly how good a year Keith has had.
His 10th career No. 1 came with “Sweet Thing,” a cut from his Defying Gravity CD that was released in march. By April, the CD hit the top spot on the Billboard Country chart, and the Top 200 All-Genre Album Chart – that was a career first for Keith. His second single from that album, “Kiss A Girl” became his 20th Top 5 and “Only You Could Love Me This Way,” was his 11th No. 1.
We’ve seen a lot of Keith on television this year – an appearance and ACM award in April; American Idol finale performance in May; an appearance on Ellen. And, we can’t go on without mentioning his 60 shows during his Escape Together World Tour – including sell outs in Los Angeles, Nashville, Canada and Australia.
Keith also helped raise almost $600,000 for the Country Music Hall of Fame, at a benefit show which included Vince Gill, Taylor Swift, Brad Paisley, Faith Hill, Lady Antebellum, Jason Aldean, Dierks Bentley and Little Big Town. And, this fund raising effort made him a nominee for “Tennessean of the Year.”
Keith’s video for “Who Wouldn’t Wanna Be Me,” is one of the nominees for CMT’s Video of the Decade.
Looks like Keith already has a pretty good start on a 2010 tour, with dates on his web site from April 16, 2010 through Sept. 4th, 2010. Oh my goodness! The Allentown Fair in Allentown, Pa., has Keith on Sept. 3, 2010. That’s a great fairground, and a great show stage. But Keith Urban? Oh my goodness! Lucky residents of the Allentown area – get your tickets now! Tickets run from $55-$75, and are on sale now.
You can’t talk about Keith without mentioning Nicole and Sunday Rose … they are just an adorable family. And, and if anyone ever doubted how much he loves them … watch this video. It’s Keith in Australia, coming back for an encore after a long delay … caused by trouble with the phone lines when he was trying to make his daily phone call to Nicole.
I hope you all had a great Christmas. Take care, write when you get a minute, I’ll talk to you all soon!
