Steel Magnolia traveled to Bristol, Va., recently, and made a stop at WXBQ radio in Bristol. The duo, who won last year’s “Can You Duet,” on CMT has been busy ever since, with recordings, shows, and of course the radio tour that is a great starting place for new talent.
The photo at the left is Josh Jones, Reggie Neel (10 a.m.-3 p.m. WXBQ on air personality); Meghan Linsey, and Bill Hagy, WXBQ’s program director. The photo at the right of Meghan and Josh was taken at the WXBQ studio. Thanks so much Reggie, for sharing these photos with me and my readers.
The duo is recording on Big Machine Records, and since winning the television singing contest, they have been very busy, opening for some of country’s biggest names. They have opened for Toby Keith, Brad Paisley, Travis Tritt, Gary Allen and Blake Shelton, just to mention a few.
Steel Magnolia was part of Nashville’s Christmas parade this year, along with John Rich, who served as grand marshal, Carter’s Chord, and of course Nashville’s Mayor, Karl Dean. The entire parade was shown on Nashville’s Metro Channel 3. Lucky Nashville area folks got to see that on television. Maybe if I start planning now I could actually be in Nashville for that parade next year. I bet it was great.
I enjoyed this duo on CMT’s Can You Duet. And I really like their song “Keep On Lovin’ You.” There isn’t one lead singer and one helping out – both of them take their turn with lead vocals. And both do it really well. If these two weren’t already a couple, you’d watch them sing, listen to them, and wish they were. They have that same kind of devotion to each other that we saw with Joey and Rory.
The kids are scheduled for a show at Morongo Cassino in Cabazon, Calif., on Jan. 28. They’ll be back in the east at the Hampton Coliseum in Hampton, Va., on Jan. 3o0 for WGH’s Winterblast, and on Feb. 4, they have an 8 p.m show at the Buffalo Club in Buffalo, N.Y., at A Kissin’ 92 New Country Acoustic Showcase. They’ve got Ohio, Rhode Island, and Minnesota coming up right after that. Be sure to check their show schedule on their web site.
Here’s a video from their “Can You Duet” competition. It’s a Faith and Tim song, and they did a super job with it.
I have so much to do today. Sorry this post is so late – I really have to get on with my Sunday! You guys have a good day, drop me a line when you can, it’s great hearing from you all.
