Last night we watched the first (I think) award show of 2010. But I could be wrong about that. It seems there’s some kind of award show for something on all the time anymore. When December rolls around, I wonder how those people feel who went through an entire year of award shows and didn’t win anything. Last night it was the 36th annual People’s Choice Awards.
I have to admit, that I watch these shows more to see who is on, who they are with, and what they are wearing, than I do to see who actually wins something. And as I have said countless times before, it isn’t the award that tells you how popular an artist is, or how many fans they have – it’s how many people come to their concerts, and how many people buy their CDs.
But, I still watch. And, I’m still very happy when people I like win. Last night’s winners included some of my favorite country artists, and I’m sure some of yours.
Newly engaged, and much in the news lately – Carrie Underwood was chosen Favorite Country Artist. I like that. I’m glad she won. However, this is the first time I’ve ever seen Carrie in a dress that I didn’t absolutely love. I always thought that girl would look fantastic in anything, but I think she fell just short of fantastic with that dress. (Sorry, Carrie … You’re a beautiful girl, but that dress didn’t do a thing for you.)
Favorite Female Artist went to Taylor Swift. The awards that Taylor and Keith won were for all genres of music. Wonder why they didn’t have a category for Favorite Female Country Artist and one for Favorite Male Country Artist … but I guess this worked, too. Congratulations to Taylor. I think she’s pretty much won everything out there the past few years.
Ellen Degeneres was selected Favorite Talk Show. I would have picked her. She’s funny, she’s a good interviewer, and she has great guests on her show.
On Jan. 31, we’ll get to watch the Grammy awards live on CBS. This is the 52nd year for them. Taylor, keep your dress pressed and your shoes shined, because we could be seeing you again very soon. Taylor is the only country artist nominated for Record of the Year, Album of the Year, and Song of the Year at this year’s Grammy award show. If you haven’t been keeping up with this, she’s also nominated for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance, Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals, Best Female Country Vocal Performance, Best Country Song and Best Country Album. You can read the full list of Grammy nominees here.
Time to get ready for work. The weather forecast for the next week is terrible … at least for those of us who don’t enjoy going out in the cold and snow it’s terrible. But I have to get out of here.
You guys drop me a line when you get a minute. I love hearing from you.
