Toby Trace Trace Adkins is currently keeping busy with his Shine All Night tour, with Martina McBride. The tour started on Friday, Nov. 20, 2009, in Moline, Ill., and will continue through May 2, when they finish up in Columbia, S.C. at the Colonial Center.

Somehow, during this very busy time for Trace – and in the middle of what seems to be a highly successful tour – Trace found time to switch record labels. Trace has been with Capitol Records Nashville since 1994, and I really believe he’s had a pretty successful run. So I’m not sure why he’s changing labels, but I think he’s picked another good one. Trace has joined Show Dog-Universal Music, the new company formed by the merger of Universal South and Show Dog Nashville. Show Dog was Toby Keith’s company, and he is the principle of the new label, along with Universal South’s Mark Wright, who is the president. You can find out more about the merger at Country Aircheck.

Trace2 Trace put the announcement up on his web site yesterday. Here’s what it said: Toby Keith, Principle and Mark Wright, President of Show Dog-Universal Music have officially announced their first signing, platinum selling superstar Trace Adkins. Trace Adkins is a multifaceted entertainer who has achieved incredible success as a performer, author, and actor. Trace made his debut in country music more than a decade ago and has since become an undeniable musical force, earning his place among the most identifiable artists of his generation. Adkins has charted 27 singles, with 14 breaking into the top 10. His albums have achieved gold or platinum status with three making their entry at #1.

Trace1 "While touring together this past summer, Toby and I had some time to get to know each other better and we discovered that as artists, we share a common vision," says Adkins. "I’ve had 15 great years at Capitol Records/Nashville and I respect and appreciate everyone I’ve worked with there. But, the excitement surrounding this merger is very invigorating and I’m really excited about the future and the opportunities and possibilities that are ahead at Show Dog-Universal Music.

"I’m so excited to be working with Trace," said Keith. "We both worked the same old bar circuit of the Southwest years ago at the same time. We are just alike and see eye to eye in so many ways. Me and entire Show Dog-Universal Music staff are ready to tear it up for him."

"The first time I heard ‘Every Light In the House’, I asked myself, ‘Why didn’t I sign this guy?’, and now I finally get to work with him," commented Wright."Toby and I are looking forward to teaming up with Trace; he is truly an exciting addition to the Show Dog-Universal Music family.

On December 18th, Toby and Mark announced they were going to merge Show Dog Nashville and Universal Records South to the new Show Dog-Universal Music label. A label that would have the feeling of being an independent with strong and personal relationships with their artists as well as a powerhouse with more staff and better opportunities for all the artists signed. It is a moved that underscores their shared commitment to expanding the marketplace for new music.

That’ll do it for now. You guys enjoy your Thursday!
More later,
