Rutledge 121 I actually managed to get through all 10 performers, in slightly under two weeks since this great Country Music is Love benefit show in Nashville on Feb. 9. This was the first-ever CMIL benefit for City of Hope. I’m sure there are a lot of people who would like this to become the first annual! I know I’m already making plans to attend, so I hope we get a second one.

Yesterday, I told you about Adam Gregory, and that I had one artist to put up after him. That artist is Matt Stillwell, and you’ll get that report now.

Rutledge 285 I’ve had several opportunities to see Matt perform. In fact, Matt was generous enough to come to our little town of Erwin, Tenn., last May to be part of our benefit show for Relay For Life of Unicoi County (for the American Cancer Society). Matt, along with Randy Houser, came to Unicoi County High School and put on a fantastic acoustic concert for our relayers and country music fans

Matt is also pretty much a regular at Capone’s in Johnson City, Tenn. In fact, he will be there again on Friday night, Feb. 26, and I’ll be right there at the foot of the stage grabbing photos and enjoying Matt and his band.

Rutledge 282

I have a number of entertainers that I say the same thing about … that thing is this: “I have my favorite song by him (or her), and no matter how many songs they put out, this one will always be my favorite.” And I can say that about Matt. While a lot of you are probably thinking I’m going to say my favorite Matt Stillwell song is “Shine.” you’d be wrong. That is certainly the one most people think of when they think about Matt, but the one that comes to mind for me is “Damn This Rain.”

Rutledge 295 I’m not sure why that’s my favorite. It really isn’t something I can relate to. It’s just a great song. If you haven’t heard it yet, you can do that by visiting Matt’s MySpace page. Ok, I have to rethink this one, it seems I actually have two favorite Matt Stillwell songs, and they will always be my favorites. Am I allowed to have two? Yep, I think I can. So let’s add to “Damn This Rain,” Matt’s “Somewhere Between Me and  You.” Also on his MySpace page.

Matt has quite a few shows up on his MySpace page, so check them out. The day after Capone’s, he will be at Country Crossing in Alabama, that’s Saturday, Feb. 27. he is also scheduled for a show at Asheville, N.C.’s Orange blossom, and will be part of Aquapalooza at Lake Travis, Texas. And we can’t forget about Shinefest 2010 in Fontana Village in North Carolina on Aug. 13 and 14, 2010.

He’s a really nice kid, and a fantastic performer. I hope all of you will get a chance to spend some time with Matt Stillwell some day. You won’t leave one of his shows without becoming one of his biggest fans.

That will do it for this morning. It’s Monday – which means back to the office. I’ll talk to you all when I can. Thanks again for all the e-mail! You guys have been great. I always enjoy hearing from you.
