Saturday morning, a firey crash on Interstate 95, killed the driver of a tractor-trailer that was hauling equipment to Carrie Underwood’s concert at the Foxwoods Casino MGM Grand Theater in Mashantucket. Only one lane was open while the accident was cleared, sometime after 7 p.m.
According to a report in the The Hartford Courant, the accident happened around 8 a.m Saturday, March 20, when the tractor-trailer heading north on I-95, veered off the left shoulder, scraping along 400 feet of guardrail. After the guardrail tore open the truck’s full tank, the diesel fuel ignited and engulfed the driver’s portion of the tractor-trailer into flames. The truck then then tumbled down an embankment, landing on the median, and blocked southbound lanes of Taugwonk Road.
During the concert at Foxwoods Casino, Underwood dedicated Temporary Home to the driver. About half-way through the concert, Underwood told the crowd about the accident and dedicated the song to the driver and his family.
An article in the Norwich Bulletin said, "remaining poised throughout most of the song, Underwood became shaky and tearful toward the end, receiving vocal support and a standing ovation from the thousands in attendance. She finished and the show continued without a hitch."
Carrie’s Fan Site has a video up of her dedication to the driver, and performance of Temporary Home at Saturday night’s show. To see the video, click here. I don’t know how she got through that – couldn’t have been easy. I can’t imagine how hard that must have been.
Along with Carrie, and her everyone on her team, we send our thoughts and prayers out to the family of the driver killed in this horrible accident.
Off to start my Monday! Talk to you all soon!
