Capitol Nashville has recently announced the formation of a sister label, EMI Records Nashville. I’m sure everyone is familiar with Capitol Nashville, that’s the label with artists like Keith Urban, Lady Antebellum, Darius Rucker, Little Big Town, Direks Bentley, Luke Brian, Emily West and Eric Church.
Their new label, EMI Records Nashville has Troy Olsen. I’m sure just about everyone reading this is shaking their head and saying, “Who?” That’s what I’m going to tell you. Because as soon as I heard the name, I went to his MySpace page. I wanted to hear him, and I wanted to see him. And I found out, I really like him.
Since I started Country’s Chatter in February, 2008, I have been introduced to literally hundreds of singers, songwriters, bands, and just anyone and everyone who has a CD out t hey would like me to listen to and review. Sometimes I really like them, sometimes I don’t. Troy Olsen, I really like.
He’s working on his debut album, that will be released later this year. And if the songs on his MySpace are any indication of what we can expect to find on that album, I’m definitely ready for it. Here’s what the folks at EMI had to say about Troy: "Establishing EMI Records Nashville is part of our growth strategy and a way to provide artists a terrific creative home and a top notch, dedicated team to help build their careers," says Mike Dungan, President and CEO of Capitol Nashville. "We couldn’t be more pleased to have an artist as unique and groundbreaking as Troy christen the roster of EMI Records Nashville. This demonstrates our commitment to and investment in the country genre. Fasten your seat belt, because we have a lot more in store for fans and our partners in retail and radio."
Now, here’s what I think of him. I almost feel as if I should review the music on his MySpace, because it would be so easy. There’s one thing that describes this kid’s music – Country. That’s it. Oh, maybe there’s a little more than that – like he’s country, he’s very good, and he’s definitely easy to look at. The songs he has on his MySpace are “Right Tonight,” “Tumbleweed,” “If You Let Me Love You,” “That’s Why I Run,” “Ghost Town Train,” “Summer Thing,” “I’ll Just Hold On,” “Trying to Find the Sun,” “Let Me Take You There,” and “Broken by You.” I would seriously suggest that you head on over there and listen to every one of them. After you listen to all of them, I really want to know if you have a favorite, because I can’t. I love every one of them.
Troy has a lot of shows up on his MySpace page, too – so you’ll want to head on over and check that list out. Here are few of them for you: Ford Amphitheater, Tampa, Fla., May 14; Metropolitan Park, Jacksonville, Fla., May 16; Blossom Music Center, Cleveland, Ohio, May 20; First Midwest Bank Amphitheater, Chicago, Ill., May 22; Verizon Wireless, Indianapolis, Ind., May 25; Verizon Wireless, Charlotte, N.C., May 27; Post Gazette Pavilion, Pittsburgh, Pa., May 29; Meadowbrook Music Arts Center, Gilford, N.H., May 31. He has shows scheduled in Arizona, California, New York, and just about everywhere.
I don’t often get this excited when I hear an artist for the first time. But was really very impressed with t his kid, and I’m hoping it won’t be long before we’re hearing him on our local country radio station. I’m looking forward to that debut CD, too. And in the mean time – I hope all of you will visit his MySpace page, and let me know what you think of this great new artist.
That’s it for this morning. I’ll talk to all real soon! Have a great Friday! And plan a fun weekend!
