Everyone who has been an Alan Jackson fan since day one, raise your hand. Wow! That’s a lot of hands! And, not a huge surprise that Alan has so many fans behind him. One of country’s true greats, this man has remained true to who he is through his entire career. He’s still the soft-spoken, down home, “we’ll chat in the bus,” guy he’s always been.
Is it any surprise to anyone that Alan Jackson now has his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame? The only surprise for me is that he didn’t have one there sooner. It’s an honor I definitely feel he deserves.
An article in the LA Times said that after the unveiling of the star, Alan put on a concert at the Hotel Cafe. He did an 80-minute, 21 song set for the fans who were on hand. But, according to the Times, “he never let go of the engaging small-town honesty that’s helped endear him to fans over the last two decades”.
“This is a legendary piece of concrete and I feel humbled and honored to be given this award,” Jackson said during the ceremony.
You can see a video of Alan’s part of the ceremony by visiting On The Red Carpet’s web site.
The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce web site says Alan received Star number 2405 on the Walk of Fame. And in their write up, mentioned Alan’s 17 Gold, Platinum, and Multi-Platinum albums, and the release of Freight Train. You can’t talk about Alan’s accomplishments without mentioning his 24 No. 1 songs, and Grammy-winning Best Country Song, “Where Were You (When the World Stopped Turning).”
I was glad to see the Chamber mention a few of the charities Alan supports, including: Angel’s House, a shelter for foster children in Georgia; Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital; Tennessee Baptist Children’s Home, and The American Red Cross.
I’ve only seen Alan Jackson in concert once. That was at Thompson-Bolling Arena in Knoxville, quite a number of years ago. But he puts on a show concert goers are going to remember for a very long time. And he’s definitely on my list titled “Artists I’ve seen in concert, but would like to see again”.
Time to get a few things done this morning. Enjoy your Saturday! Back later.
