Every year those of us in Northeast Tennessee, Southwest Virginia and Western North Carolina wait anxiously for the month of June. That is when we get to go to Winged Deer Park in Johnson City, Tenn., every Thursday night, to watch the outdoor movie on the huge inflatable screen.
I know, I’ve told you guys about this — more than a time or two. But I had to do it one more time for 2010, because this past Thursday night was the last one for this year. And they showed a super movie, “The Blind Side.” In spite of threatening weather, the movie went on as planned.
For the first time this year, I was there early enough to see the big screen being inflated. Usually it’s already upright by the time I arrive at the park. But this time, with the possibility of storms, they didn’t put it up until nearly show time. So, we have a few photos of the screen going up.
And of course, we have a lot of children playing games with the WXBQ staff, people spread out to watch the movie and enjoy the food available at the event – or food they brought from home, and of course dogs, babies, lawn chairs, and a lot of people having a very good time.
So for the last time this year — here is Lakeside Cinema at Winged Deer Park in Johnson City – in pictures.
If you missed the movies this year, grab a 2011 calendar and draw a big red circle around every Thursday … that would be June 2, 9, 16 and 23…. Oh, and June 30, too. But I’m not sure that means we’ll get five movies – we’ll just have to wait and see.
Talk to you all soon. If you were at Thursday night’s movie, I you may see yourself in some of these pictures! And I’ll see you all later!
