BC2 No, it’s not really Billy Currington Day – not that I know of, anyway. But it’s definitely Billy Currington Day here at Country’s Chatter, and I couldn’t think of anything else to title this post. Billy Currington Day worked for me. (First photo on left and first photo on right from May 22, 2009, show in Johnson City, Tenn., when Billy opened for Sugarland).

What brought this on was just hearing his song “Pretty Good at Drinking Beer” on the radio. Billy is not only a great entertainer, but he’s also a very lucky one. The right songs just keep ending up at his doorstep. “Good Directions,” “People Are Crazy,” and now “Pretty Good at Drinkin Beer” are some of the cute, catchy, make you smile, songs that most of us seem to enjoy hearing over and over again.

BC1 But that’s not all Billy is good at. While I love those kind of songs, you can’t think Billy Currington without thinking “Must Be Doin’ Somethin’ Right.”   With that very small recap of some of the music Billy has put out there for all of us, here’s a little more about the artist.

His birthday is Nov. 19, for those of you who like to send cards.  He released three studio albums in 2003 for Mercury Nashville.  His self-titled debut album launched his first single “Walk a Little Straighter”.  His first Top 5 single came from that album, and that was “I Got A Feelin”. When he teamed up with Shania Twain for the “Party For Two” duet, he got his second Top 10 song.

BillyC His second album, “Doin’ Something’ Right” made it to No. 1 on Billboard’s country album chart, and it produced gave Billy No. 1 songs with the title track, and “Good Directions”. If you didn’t know, “Good Directions” was co-written with Luke Bryan.  The third album was “Little Bit of Everything,” and included “Don’t”, which peaked at No. 2.

The current album, “Enjoy Yourself,” is where we get “Pretty Good at Drinkin’ Beer.” It was written by Troy Jones, and I can’t imagine any one but Billy singing that song.  I know I sing along every time I hear it – and even find myself singing sometimes when it’s not on the radio!

BillyCurrington2 In 2006, he received the CMT Music Award for Hottest Video of the Year with “Must Be Doin’ Something Right.” He was also nominated for a Grammy Award that year for “People Are Crazy,” and was nominated for both Single of the year and Song of the Year with “People Are Crazy” at the ACM awards.

951203.tif “Doin’ Something Right,” has been certified U.S. Platinum, and “Little Bit of Everything” was certified U.S. Gold. There’s a little background, which most of Billy’s fans probably already knew. And now, here’s where you can find th is very talented kid on tour.

You guys in Owensville, Mo., get moving – because you’ve got Billy tonight at your Gasconade County Fair. Aug. 4, he will be in Horseheads, N.Y., at the Chemung City Fair. Aug. 5, Little Valley, N.Y., Cattaragus County Fairgrounds; Aug. 7, Halifax,  Nova Scotia, Halifax Commons Park; Aug. 25, Stillwater, Okla., Tumbleweed Dance Hall and Comcast Arena;  Aug. 28, Louisville, Ky, Cardinal Stadium. From there he’s heading west to Washington, Oregon and California. Those shows out west are with Carrie Underwood. Be sure to check his full show schedule here.

I’m off to get my Saturday started. Sometimes, it’s just nice to work at your own pace. And today, it looks as thought my pace is “slow”.  Talk to you all soon!
