I don’t care how many songs Miranda Lambert puts out in the future, I believe the one I have chosen as my all-time favorite Miranda song will stay my all-time favorite.. And that just happens to be her second No. 1 single, “The House That Built Me.” What a great song that one is! It’s one of those songs that every one of us can relate to in some way. I think most of us would like to go back to our childhood home, and just look around. “I won’t take nothing but a memory from the house that built me.” What fantastic lyrics.
On Tuesday night, Miranda, joined by songwriters Tom Douglas and Allen Shamblin, celebrated her four-week reign at No. 1 with a party at Sambuca restaurant in Nashville. Miranda is someone who has “life of the party” written all over her face…. and she doesn’t seem to mind letting everyone know. As the evening began, Miranda announced, "Let’s get the business over with and party!" She definitely had every reason to do that.
Blake Shelton was there, as well as Chris Young, who records for the same label. And there were several hundred other friends and industry representatives – all stopping by to congratulate Miranda. Miranda thanked everyone for their part in the song. And then she thanked Blake for giving her the song. This I didn’t know about until our friends over at The Boot reported it.
Miranda paused to thank Blake. "We were driving home one night from the airport and I was listening to a compilation CD I had been given of songs that had been pitched to me. I didn’t like any of them and Blake said, ‘Here, listen to what I have and maybe you’ll find something.’ I thought to myself, ‘Yeah, ’cause our music is so much alike.’ ‘The House That Built Me’ was the third song on his CD and I cried all the rest of the way home. We immediately called and asked (producer) Scott Hendricks if he could get the hold on the song moved from Blake to me.
Miranda paused, looked at Blake and continued, "I know you didn’t have to do that. You could have kept it — except that you wanted to live," she joked before giving him heartfelt thanks for letting her cut the song. "The lyrics are amazing. I still can’t sing it in concert without crying. It’s my second No. 1 in a row, and I can’t tell you what it means to me." I’m sure all of Miranda’s fans know her first No. 1 was ‘White Liar.’
Miranda is part of CMT’s tour this year, and she’s coming to Bristol, Tenn. I’m not sure if I’ll make it to that concert, but I’m really glad that i had an opportunity to see her a few years back.
I need to run. You guys have a great Thursday. Talk to you real soon!
