I can’t remember ever being lucky enough to be in the ‘right place at the right time.’ But a lot of people in two train stations recently had that good fortune. Keith Urban actually spent a little time at both Grand Central Station in New York, and 30th Street Station in Philadelphia – and he sang! The kid put up mics, and amps, and he sang at the train stations, and I think that is totally cool.
It wouldn’t surprise me if some new artist opened up his guitar case on the side of the street, or in a train station and started to sing. But when those guys do, we usually toss a dollar or two into their guitar case. I know Keith didn’t leave his guitar case open for donations – he was just there to entertain the crowds. And I think that’s awesome.
More recently, Keith performed a free show in West Village Dallas Mall. This time of year, he could have walked into any Mall in this country and found hundreds and hundreds of people to sing to. But, I wasn’t lucky enough to have it be one of the malls around here.
I would like to send a little message out to all of our other artists, just to let them know that if they want to belt out a couple of country tunes at a train station, mall, bus depot, local library, or wherever — we’re ready for them. And I might throw in a city park, bowling alley, or anywhere else they can think of.
I think things like this are just very special. If anyone reading this was at either of these events, I could use a video or two. Did you have your phone with you? Drop me a line, tell me more about it, and by all means – send a video.
I have to run for now. I’ll talk to you all soon. After church I have to finish decorating, get some laundry done, and get ready to head back to the office tomorrow — not an easy task after a 4-day weekend.
Enjoy your Sunday!
