ACA Lady A I suppose most country music fans in the country watched the American Country awards on television last night. We’ve all been talking about this new fan-voted award show since it was first announced that it was going to happen. And, like  a lot of you, I had my favorites lined up. And some that I just knew were going to win … but they didn’t! And yes, that surprised me.

Easton Corbin took hope the award for Breakthrough Artist of the year, and Breakthrough Video, for “A Little More Country Than That.” That didn’t surprise me. I saw Easton in October 2009, when he (along with Mallory Hope) did an acoustic show at the Paramount in Bristol, Tenn. He did great, he was very nice to all the people who came to his show, and with two the success he had with his first two singles, these awards were not a surprise at all. {All photos in this post by WireImage]

ACA Rascal The Decade Award went to Rascal Flatts. Have they really been around for 10 years. Time just goes too fast!

Here is a surprise. Josh Turner won for Single of the Year for a Male Artist, for “Why Don’t We Just Dance.” I love that song! While it was on the radio I said it was “the best song on radio today.” However, I didn’t think so many people would agree with me.

As a long-time Toby Keith fan, I was glad to see he took an award home from this new awards show. He got the award for Video Visionary Award.

ACA Easton Music Video of the Year went to Blake Shelton for “Hillbilly Bone” … really? Love Blake Shelton, wouldn’t give you two cents for that stupid song. There are so many videos this year that are far, far better than that one.

Lady Antebellum definitely did well, winning Single of the Year; Music Video by a Group; and Single by a Group, all for “Need You Now.”

ACA Carrue The one walking away with the biggest arm-full of trophies from this show was Carrie Underwood. In addition to her award for Artist of the Year, she also won for top female artist, top touring artist, top album, top single, and music video by a female artist.

The biggest disappointment for me this year how Miranda Lambert seemed to be totally ignored by her fans. Hey fans, where were you during the voting? As far as I’m concerned, Miranda should have won Female Vocalist, she definitely should have had something for “The House That Built Me.” That is one country song that I think everyone who hears it can identify with.

So, for me – there were definitely a few surprises. To the winners, congratulations. To those of you who didn’t take home an award, you are still winners! At least as far as I’m concerned. and after all, I’m one of the people who buys your CD’s and tickets to your shows … so I think my opinion counts for something.

Freezing here in northeast Tennessee. And I’m headed to the office. Hope you all have a good Tuesday, and if the weather where you are is anything like the weather where I am … stay warm!

Talk to you all soon!
