Buddy CannonI guess I’m like most country music fans. I have songs I love, songs I like, songs I really don’t care much for. But I usually only think of the singer, and the band, and maybe occasionally the people who wrote the song, assuming they are other than the singer. But I give little thought to the producers. The people who are putting all of their know-how into turning songs into hits.

Yesterday, I got the following press release about one such producer – Buddy Cannon. He is the producer on my very favorite Kenny Chesney song, “Somewhere With You,” and a whole lot of other Kenny tunes. Here’s the press release:

January 24, 2011 – With the recent announcement that “Somewhere With You” took the #1 spot on the country radio charts, famed producer Buddy Cannon can add one more accolade to his long list of career accomplishments – he has co-produced twenty of Kenny Chesney’s twenty-one #1 hit singles (working with either Chesney or Norro Wilson as co-producers).

From their first pairing on the 1997 album I Will Stand, the Cannon/Chesney partnership has produced a string of chart topping song hits and multiple multi-platinum album sales.

Chesney’s complete #1 single list:

                                                21.  Somewhere With You

                                                20.  Boys Of Fall

Cannon produced #1 singles include Chely Wright’s “Single White Female,” John Michael Montgomery’s “The Little Girl,” Joe Nichols’ “Tequila Makes Her Clothes Fall Off,” and Reba’s “Somebody,” among others.  He was named the ACM Producer of the Year in 2005.

As a songwriter, Cannon has written some of country music’s most celebrated #1 hits including “Set’em Up Joe” recorded by Vern Gosdin  and the ACM 2006 Song of the Year and CMA 2007 Song of the Year, “Give It Away,” recorded by George Strait.

Cannon and Chesney co-produced an album by Willie Nelson, Moment Of  Forever, which was released  in January 2008. Cannon has recently been in the studio producing a duet album with Willie and his 21 year old son Lukas Nelson.

ABOUT BUDDY CANNON:

Buddy Cannon’s career in country music has encompassed all aspects of the business, from session background vocalist, band member and songwriter to publishing and record company executive. His knack for discovering and producing artists and their hits has helped launch the careers of mega-stars like Shania Twain and Billy Ray Cyrus, and his songwriting prowess has provided numerous hit songs for everyone from Vern Gosdin and Mel Tillis to Alabama and George Strait.

I need to get ready for work – looks like we’re in for more snow in northeast Tennessee.  Hope you all have a great Tuesday!
