I have been getting a lot of visitors to Country’s Chatter coming from Google, Bing, Ask, or one of the other search engines. That in itself is not unusual – that happens every day. But what is bringing them to me are their questions like: “Where is Richard Quillen” or “Why did Richard Quillen leave WXBQ” or even “Did Richard Quillen leave WXBQ?”
Since I have written about WXBQ Radio (the world’s best radio station) ever since I started this blog; and since I couldn’t write about the station without mentioning Richard at least a time or two… their questions brought them to my site. However, they really didn’t find the information they were looking for – all they found were things I’ve written about WXBQ and about Richard during the past 3 years.
So to all of those information seekers, here’s what you’re looking for. Richard has left WXBQ in Bristol, Va. I can’t remember exactly when, but it seems to me it was the week before Valentine’s Day, because when I went to the station to deliver Valentine’s Day treats to the on-air staff, he was already gone. I believe he left the Wednesday before I went up, but I don’t remember exactly. I knew he had gone, because I didn’t get to make up a little bag of chocolate for him this year.
Anyway, his former partner from the morning air show, Steve Stroud, was doing the 10 a.m.-3 p.m.show that Saturday, and we talked a little about Richard’s career change. It’s not exactly a ‘career change’ since Richard is still doing the morning air show – just at a different radio station. He can now be found from 6-10 a.m. on WAXM 93.5, which is also in Virginia.
For those of you who are familiar with Richard’s morning show on WXBQ, you can pretty much expect to hear the same thing at the new station. And, he’s still doing the Saturday Night Request Show, which he made famous here at WXBQ for many years. He put the following post up on his facebook page:
“Monday Morning On 93.5 WAXM…we will start at 5:30 … lots of cool stuff on the way..now… If I can just get up!!!..Request show tonight 7 till 11..Casey still at 8:30 1-855-935-(waxm)9296…….waxm.com or mobile.waxm.com….Thanks…”
In addition to those shows, it is my understanding that his new position now has him working in programming. I hope he will add a comment here, and let us all know what that’s all about.
I wish Richard all the best in his new job. I’m sure he will be missed by wXBQ listeners.
I’ve been really lately, and it doesn’t look like today is going to be any less busy. But I’ll get more posted just as soon as I can. In the meantime, drop me an e-mail – let me know what you’ve been up to and remember to send pictures from your country music events. I love getting them posted for you all.
