On Thursday night, May 12, 2011, I went to Kingsport, Tenn. It’s less than an hour from my house. And Kingsport has this awesome Summer Concert Series on Broad Street. In the past, I’ve seen Jack Ingram on the outdoor stage, and Jypsi was there one year, too. New country artist Brinley Addington has also done a show there, in fact, he opened for Jack Ingram. They get a lot of artists there, and it’s a great way to spend a summer evening.
This past Thursday night, it was LoCash Cowboys. Those of you who read Country’s Chatter regularly probably remember me talking about Preston Brust and Chris Lucas. If you do, you also remember me telling you that I really wasn’t all that crazy about their music. Their music was fast, it was loud – I’m old. But they definitely won me over with “Keep In Mind.” And I think that was the main reason I went to the show on Thursday. However, I came away from that concert with a whole lot of reasons why I’m ready to go to their next show in this area. (Previous articles here, and one about their visit to W.O. Smith Music School here.)
All I have to say about these guys now is … they definitely have a new fan! They opened with what could be my theme song, “C-O-U-N-T-R-Y”. They sang a lot of the songs I’d listen to on their web site. That’s where I found another favorite – “Right Here In Front of You”. And they sang a lot of songs that I just like. Oak Ridge Boys, Alabama, and Elvis. And it didn’t seem to matter what they were singing. They sang it really, really well. And they had the best time on stage. They had a good time off stage, too!
Preston jumped off the front of the stage, and made his way through the street filled with lawn chairs, to snuggle with a fan in the group. Of course I was chasing right behind him with the camera – so Brenda, you check out the pictures at the end of this article, because you will probably be there. He sang a little bit of “Elvira” and gave some of the men in the audience a chance to “Omm Poppa Omm Poppa Mow Mow “, with him. He was having so much fun, and the audience was, too!
Of course they sang their new song, which will be released June 6. The song is called “You Got Me,” and if you check out their web site, you can listen to it. It’s not slow and pretty like “Keep in Mind,” but it’s not loud and really fast like “Here Comes Summer” or “C-O-U-N-T-R-Y”. But I really like it, and I’m looking for it to do great things on the country charts. I believe Chris and Preston both know that it will be a very long time until anyone releases a song that I’m going to like as much as I like “Keep In Mind.” I’m still trying to figure out why that song didn’t race right up to No. 1 a few weeks after it was released. I know it’s been playing on the radio for a long time, but I still think it is one of the best songs on country radio today.
I also found out these two are going to be at our Washington County Fair in Abingdon, Va., on September 14 . And I am so pleased that I’m going to have another chance to see them again so soon. They are energetic, have the best stage presence, they are talented, and they are fun to watch.
Preston and Chris obviously appreciate their fans. They came out after the show and spent a lot of time with the people who were anxious for a photo, autograph, or just wanted to say hello. I think it is so important for our artists to take the time to do that. And the fans appreciate it, too. Now – here are a few more pictures from Thursday’s show.
I can’t end this without thanking These guys for the fantastic plug they gave Country’s Chatter from the stage! I really appreciate it. I love my readers, and I certainly love getting more readers. You two have helped spread the word about Country’s Chatter to the folks in Kingsport, Tenn. And I hope the two of you will keep visiting, too!
That will do it for tonight. I’m so happy to be back! Talk to you all real soon!
