035_35A lot of you know that I’m a long-time Phil Vassar fan. I met Phil just after he released ‘Carlene’, and have been following his career closely ever since. I’ve seen him several times since then, and if I’m ever close to where he’s performing, I plan on seeing him again. He puts on a great show, he’s a super talented songwriter and a great entertainer. And now, I get to listen to some Christmas songs from Phil on his new album ‘Noel.’

Noel will be available Nov. 22, at all digital retailers, and at Phil’s concerts. The 10-track CD includes five of our holiday classics, along with five original songs.

Phil CD“I’ve always dreamed of making a Christmas record,” said Phil. “From the time I was a boy-listening to Nat King Cole, Andy Williams, Bing Crosby and all the classic singers- I’ve wanted to do this. I love the way Christmas makes you feel,” he added “How it makes you slow down and re-evaluate your life. It makes you think about years past and look ahead toward things to come. But for me it’s the music that makes it all come alive.”

034_34The Jazzy “Doesn’t Feel Like Christmas Without You,” which Phil wrote with his co-producer of Noel, Dane Bryant, kicks off the wonderful album. Texas Swing master Ray Benson guests on “Big Ole Texas Christmas,” and the slightly irreverent “Santa’s Gone Hollywood” describes Jolly Ol’ St. Nick after he hits the lottery and moves to LA. The rockin’ “I Saved Christmas,” which Phil wrote solo, is heavy on piano and Hammond B3, and the sultry “Let’s Make A Little Christmas Tonight” needs no introduction.

Phil Vassar 3Standards on Noel include his elegant, almost haunting version of “What Child Is This,” “Oh Come All Ye Faithful/Angels We Have Heard On High” and “I’ll Be Home For Christmas.” The Carpenter’s would be proud of his classy version of “Merry Christmas Darling,” and he turns “Away In A Manger” into a powerful duet with guest singer/songwriter Kelly Collins. His rendition of “What Child Is This” is being offered as a free download in the new issue of People Country, which hits newsstands today!

I know I’m a little early with this, but I’ve already started playing Christmas music, both in my car and at my office. So I’m definitely ready for a little more – especially when it will be coming from one of my favorite artists. And today, I finished my Christmas shopping!

Talk to you all later!
