I’m not Country and to be honest I listen to very little country music and I’ve never written an article before on this site, but I do manage the bits you don’t see here at countryschatter.com If we were in Oz I guess you could say I’m the little man behind the curtain. So, you ask, why am I writing this particular article? Four years ago Country was tasked with starting a theme based blog for the Newspaper she worked for and in February 2008 she started what was at the time the little known Country’s Chatter over at wordpress.com Fast forward to today along with a couple design iterations and you find yourself at what I can only describe as the media juggernaut that is countryschatter.com; devoted media outlet for all things country music.
I still remember the day she called me and asked if 20,000 hits was a lot for her first couple months and I knew then whatever she was writing about was obviously something people wanted to read, so began the journey from a little blog to what was the first version of the website in mid 2008. I created a simple logo, registered a domain name for the site and grabbed a simple theme and used it to help the design get started and she was off. This new site was just a minor face lift in appearance but for the most part was the same blog she started earlier that year, and as such it became apparent this wasn’t going to be enough of a site to handle the volume of information she would present to the readers so I began an effort to upgrade the site from a pretty blog to a fully functional media outlet.
For as many bells and whistles as I’ve put into the site and moving news story web parts and blah blah blah…at the end of the day I can’t take any of the credit. In the last 4 years Country has written over 1350 news articles, been to countless concerts, taken over 10000 photographs, conducted hundreds of interviews, and given away more CDs than I could ever count. Statistically the site has managed to bring in over a half a million visitors from more than 160 countries and I have to say I’m honestly quite proud of her. I’m just the nerd in the background that tries to keep the servers running, the email flowing and the web site from crashing. If you ever see a maintenance alert, it’s probably me just updating a plug-in or adjusting some back end code but what I do pales in comparison. So I guess in closing all I really wanted to say was simply this; Happy 4th Birthday countryschatter.com and congratulations mom. Job, well done. I can’t wait to see what the next four years bring.
