The most recent article I put up about Randy Travis said he was marking his 25th anniversary celebration with a concert tour across America. Today, at 1:30 a.m., he was at the Denton County Sheriff’s Department jail, where he was charged with Class C misdemeanor, public intoxication. Not a planned stop on the anniversary tour, for sure. He was released this morning.
According to reports, the arrest took place outside a Baptist church near Tiago, Texas, where Randy owns a ranch.
I’ve been a fan for the past 25 years, and have had the opportunity to see this guy perform on several occasions. With a voice you recognize from the first note, he has been a very important part of country music.
Here comes the “Mom” in me. There are times, like now, when I want to take a rolled up newspaper and hit him on the top of the head and say, “Randy, what were you thinking!” I don’t have a problem with people who enjoy alcohol. Especially on a night like Super Bowl Sunday. However, please stay home. Don’t drink and drive, don’t even drink and walk, if the sidewalks are somewhere you can end up in jail for being intoxicated in public.
Look beyond this, Randy. Pick yourself up, pay your fine, and get on with the 25th anniversary tour! Your fans are waiting!
