Eagle 2

Wild Eagle took flight at Dollywood yesterday. The new winged-coaster, the first of it’s kind in the U.S., holds four cars, each carries 28 people, and it travels over a 3,000 foot track. The coaster reaches a speed of 61 miles per hour, as the riders dangle their legs and feet from the cars, which are expanded out from the track.

Dolly 2012

As she usually is, Dolly was on hand for opening day, and took part in the annual opening day parade.

Here are a few more pictures of the new roller coaster at Dollywood. This is a really fun park, for any of you who still haven’t made it there. It’s in Pigeon Forge, where there is a lot to do in addition to visiting the park.  Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg are among my favorite Tennessee tourist spots. The two towns are about 10 miles apart.
