CD Review: What to expect from JT Hodges’ self-titled, debut CD
JT Hodges is getting ready to release his self-titled, debut CD on Aug. 21, 2012. I got to listen to it tonight. The only song I had heard from it before is Goodbyes Made You Mine. That one got a lot of play on radio around here – and it was all most of us needed to hear to know that we were going to like JT Hodges.
When I review a CD, I listen to it – I always find a song or two that end up being my favorites, and I listen to them a few more times. Then I listen while I’m writing the review. The words always my own. But every now and then, I find something that says it much better than I can, and I share that with you. Right now, I want to share what respected music critic Robert K. Oermann said about “Goodbyes Made You Mine,” in his Music Row review. “This has a certain ‘presence.’ JT’s not only a solid writer, but his vocal performance is up-close and personal, packed with personality and exuding confidence. The deep-twang guitar and driving production are also pluses. A star is born.” That about says it all.
JT wrote eight of the 10 songs on the CD. Most of them are up tempo – one of my favorites isn’t. That would be When I Stop Crying. I also like Give It One More Night, a lot. This is a good album from start to finish. It isn’t one that you will go skipping through – passing over some of the songs to get to the ones you like the best. I think you’ll enjoy listening to each and every one of them.
Another one I’m anxious for all of you to listen to is “Sleepy Little Town,” the second song on the new CD. I am really hoping that this is a song JT will consider kicking up near the top of his ‘maybe I’ll release this one to radio next’ list. Because I think it’s that good! Here are the songs you’ll be hearing on the new CD on Aug. 21:
Rather Be Wrong Than Lonely
Sleepy Little Town
Hunt You Down
Give It One More Night
When I Stop Crying
Goodbyes Made You Mine
Leaving Me Later
Right About Now
Rhythm Of The Radio
Green Eyes Red Sunglasses
If you aren’t already fans of JT Hodges, give this album a quick listen, when it’s released on Aug. 21. I think you will find a lot to like about this artist. If “Goodbyes Made You Mine” didn’t already have you… there are nine more songs on this CD that will.
I’ll be back with more later!
