It’s been a busy year for Randy Travis, I wish I could say it has all been good
Back on Jan. 18, I told you all about Randy Travis marking his silver anniversary, with ‘new direction and new momentum,’ the article read. Then on Jan. 31, I wrote about his 25th anniversary celebration concert tour across America. On Feb. 6, things changed a little for Randy, when we reported that he had been arrested for public intoxication. Trouble continued for Randy, who sued ex-wife Lib Travis in May, claiming that she tried to ruin his career. Unfortunately, it looks like Randy is doing a good enough job of that all by himself.
Now we’re being told that on Tuesday night, Aug. 7, Randy was arrested on a DWI suspicion after wrecking his car. The arrest took place a little before midnight, and he had minor cuts and bruises. Unfortunately, the problems get even worse, because Randy decided rather than ‘go peacefully, he would argue with the officers, “make threats to shoot and kill the troopers working on the case,” and add charges of retaliation of obstruction to his DWI charge. I love Randy Travis, love his music, am a very long time fan who has been fortunate enough to see him on stage twice during his career, and I am not real happy with the kid right now. If this is his way of reaching out for help, I hope someone will jump in there and give him the help he obviously needs. It’s so sad that someone with that much talent would throw it all away because he didn’t think. He didn’t ask himself the one question we all need to ask BEFORE we do anything stupid. That question is “Then what?” Before you have a drink, say “then what?” Before you have that second, third or fourth drink, ask yourself, “then what?” And by all means before you get behind the wheel of a car, please ask yourself, “then what?” Something is going to happen next. And that is what you need to think about.
I hope Randy gets through all of the legal problems he has caused for himself. And, I hope we get him back in the recording studio and on the stage where he belongs. How do you all feel about this situation? Are you still a big Randy Travis fan?
I’ll be back with more later.
