Keith Urban takes a seat at American Idol’s judging table
I would really like to see this on Keith Urban’s web site, or maybe on a news-type show on CMT or GAC. But for now, we’ll go with what our ‘internet media’ is telling us, and share the article below with all of you. Apparently, a lot of people are convinced that Keith Urban will be a judge on Season 12 of American Idol. I’m ready to watch. Here’s what the reports we’re hearing are saying:
Recently the Hollywood Reporter hinted that Keith Urban might be the next new judge on American Idol, joining Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj on the panel. Now The Country Vibe confirms Keith will indeed be on the show.
Sources told The Country Vibe Idol executives wanted a country artist at the judges table and it came down to Keith Urban or Brad Paisley. When a deal couldn’t be struck with Brad, who reportedly wanted to be paid an amount similar to Nicki Minaj’s salary — approximately $8.5 million — Brad passed on the show and Idol went with Keith. Keith’s salary as a judge on season 12 of American Idol will be somewhere between $3 and $4 million.
Mariah Carey’s reported American Idol pay will be $18 million. It is not yet known if original judge Randy Jackson will return for season 12. {Source}
They sure don’t mind spending a lot of money to keep that show on the air. Am I going to watch it? You betcha! And I’m sure a lot of country music fans will be right there with me. But will it be enough viewers and generate enough advertising revenue for the network to justify that kind of salary range for a single season? We;’ll have to wait and see. Do you think maybe my terrible singing would get me as far as an audition in front of the judges? Standing 10 feet from Keith Urban might be reason enough to embarrass myself on national television. ![]()

As much as I like Keith Urban, I have absolutely no interest in watching Niki Minaj. Her vile performance on one of the awards shows was more than enough for me. I wouldn’t be surprised if choosing her was a way to drive Christians, specifically from middle America, away from the show. I’m sure they are blamed for Adam Lambert’s second place finish instead of the fact that he’s hard rock. Plus, just like recent TV shows, it can introduce corrupting influences to children whose parents aren’t paying attention to the changes in a show that they used to approve of previously. I might be totally wrong, but that’s just my gut feeling about it. Sadly, I won’t be watching.
