Little Big Town sits on the top of the charts with ‘Tornado’
I’ve been a Little Big Town fan since I was first introduced to the group back in 2002. I don’t literally mean I was ‘introduced’ to them. I’ve never met the kids, although I would love to have that opportunity some day. I’m talking about the introduction I had to them through their self-titled, debut album. One thing I’ve learned over the last 10 years, is that there are some artists who are just given too much credit…. and then, there are some who don’t receive the credit they deserve. Little Big Town is one of those artists.
I had a lot of ‘favorite songs’ on that first album. One of them was ‘Everything Changes.’ I remember listening to that CD, and thinking how it didn’t matter who was doing the lead – and who was doing the harmony. All the vocals were great, all the harmonies were great – and this was a band that worked together as a band – not as a lead singer with some back-up singers. Any one of them could sing lead, and do it well.
To date, the group h as put out five albums, (Little Big Town, The Road to Here, A Place to Land, The Reason Why, and Tornado). I also really like the single, The Reason Why, a lot. It’s songs like this I find myself wanting to listen to over and over, and often find myself singing (usually for no reason at all). But these aren’t the songs that come to mind when most people think of Little Big Town.
Most of us remember them for “Little White Church,” “Pontoon,” “Boondocks,’ “Good as Gone,” and “A Little More You.” But unless you sit down and listen to all of their music, all of the CDs, and all of the things you aren’t hearing on the radio – you don’t have a really good idea what this group really does. ‘Tornado’ has spent four consecutive weeks at the top of Billboard’s album chart; and Pontoon was the first No. 1 single for Little Big Town.
I’m looking forward to the CMA Awards next month. Little Big Town has been nominated for Vocal Group of the Year, Single of the Year (Pontoon), and Music Video of the Year (Pontoon). With countless nominations to their credit already, it’s time Kimberly, Karen, Jimi and Phillip carried home an award of two of their own.
They are currently out on tour with Rascal Flatts, and will finish up that tour on Oct. 27. In the past they have toured with Sugarland, Jake Owen, George Strait, Martina McBride, Carrie Underwood, and Miranda Lambert – and I know we are going to find a lot more shows to see them at in the coming months.
Keep an eye on their web site for all the information you need about tour date, new singles, and all the Little Big Town news you are looking for. Be sure to check out their facebook page, too. And, follow them on twitter @LBTmusic
