I’ve been a Toby Keith fan since his first single hit radio. I’ve been fortunate to see Toby in concert – an experience I wouldn’t trade for anything. My favorite Toby Keith song is one most people don’t even remember. It was called “Me, Too,” and is from his “Blue Moon” CD, way back in 1996.
Toby has done a lot since releasing his self-titled debut CD in 1993. He won American Music Awards for favorite album, and favorite Country Male Artist in the early 2000s; ACM awards from 2000 to 2004 for Album of the Year. Top Male Vocalist, Entertainer of the Year, and Video of the Year; and a CMA award in 2001 for Male Vocalist of the Year.
For the first time in seven years, Toby has been nominated for a CMA award – and if he wins, he won’t be there to accept it. According to Country Weekly, Toby doesn’t really care what people think about him not attending the ceremony. He isn’t going.
Toby doesn’t have any plans for Thursday night, Nov. 1 – but he is sure of one thing – he won’t be at the CMA’s. To quote Toby, “Hell no, I ain’t showing up. I gotta go get a root canal that day, or something fun,” he told Country Weekly.
That’s fine with me, Toby. I’m still your number one fan. And while I would like to see you on television every chance I get, I definitely understand your decision to stay away.
Anyway, I think Toby has had some really great years – fantastic singles, great albums, awesome tours … unfortunately, ‘Red Solo Cup’ is not up there with my favorite Toby songs, so I won’t be disappointed if he doesn’t win. I still think the man is one awesome talent!
Do you place a lot of importance on awards? Do you think they mean a lot to the artists? What’s more important…winning awards or selling albums, and tickets to your concerts? What do you think is more important to the artists? I’ll be watching the show tomorrow night. But not necessarily to see who won. I like to see what they are wearing, who they are with, and how excited they get when they win. I have a lot of reasons for watching – but I really don’t think the awards are all that important anymore. Maybe there are just too many of them. Let me know what you think.
I’ll be back with more later!
