Look over this list of nominees for the ACM Awards, to be held Sunday, April 7, in Las Vegas. Any surprises? There were a few for me. One is Kacey Musgraves. As much as I like this kid, one song on the charts really shouldn’t put you in the category of Female Vocalist of the Year. I know, Gretchen Wilson won that award when she had Redneck Woman out. I still don’t think she should have.

Another surprise for me. Big & Rich, Vocal Duo of the Year nominees. I like these two – always have. But they haven’t done that much this year. So that was a surprise for me. And to see Florida Georgia Line in that same category also was also something I didn’t expect. The reason again is just because they are so new. New Artist of the Year is right for them. They’re definitely a great duo. I would love to see them win that one – don’t want Jana or Brantley losing to his (or her) fiance.

Toby Keith was a bit of a surprise for me in Male Vocalist category. I’ve been a Toby fan for as long as there has been a Toby. And I don’t think he has ever received the recognition he deserves. Still, it surprised me to see him listed with the other four nominees. Also very happy to see Eric Church has been getting the recognition he deserves lately.

Vocal Group of the Year – exactly what I expected to see. Album of the year – No surprises there. Single of the Year – very glad I’m not trying to pick a winner out of this group of awesome songs. Same with Song of the Year, also a great group of songs (as you would expect, some are in both of these categories).

That’s enough of my talking – here are your nominees:
