On Saturday night, March 29, Nashville recording artist Kristina Craig will be in Erwin, Tenn., to put on a free concert at Unicoi County High School auditorium. The concert is being hosted by Unicoi County Superintendent of Roads, Terry Haynes, as his way of saying “Thank You To the Public”, for trusting in him and allowing him to serve all of you for the past 16 years. In addition to Kristina and her band, the audience will also be entertained by the UCHS Bluegrass Band, who will open the show that night. This talented group of musicians will be traveling to New Orleans early next month, where they have been invited to perform for the National School Board Association.
Kristina, a native of a small town in western Nebraska, currently makes her home in Nashville. Her new album, which follows her self-titled, debut album, is “Angel With Tattoos,” and is available through her web site, and other online music outlets. The first single from her new album, also called “Angel With Tattoos”, has climbed to the number 4 spot on the Inspirational Music Charts, and has received nationwide radio play.
She describes her music as country/Christian, and considers herself to be a singer/songwriter. I think she needs to include ‘performer/entertainer’ in her description. Kristina has a unique ability to weave together the best of country and Christian music, and along with her band has garnered several prestigious honors. She has been nominated for Inspirational Country Music Awards for Female Vocalist of the Year, New Artist of the Year, and Vocal Group of the Year.
I wasn’t familiar with Kristina’s music, until I put her CD in my CD player this evening. Now, she a a permanent part of my playlist, and I know will be a traveling companion when I head out to the car. There’s nothing on this album you won’t want to listen to. Twelve songs, every one of them great. This is going to be a concert no fan of country/Christian music is going to want to miss.
The songs on her new album are Nowhere to Be, Angel With Tattoos, Change My Mind, Wait on You, Faith, Ride to Monterey, Glory Shine, Ordinary People, Make Me Real, I’m a Rock, Mama Said, and To Say Goodbye.
Often when an entire album is written by the same writers, all of the music sounds the same. That is not the case “Angel With Tattoos”. While every song on this CD was co-written by Kristina and Greg (Joey) Giovannetti, each song has a sound and story all its own. The sounds of this album vary from soothing country, with a hint of blues, to fun up-tempo beats with a touch of rock. The music and the lyrics are relaxing, and that makes listening very enjoyable.
The Band crosses generational lines as well, with a show that delivers traditional country music and contemporary radio hits. They are filling venues ranging from churches to rodeo arenas, fairs, and festivals, as they are preparing for their 2014 "Small Town America Tour". The hallmark of the Kristina Craig Band is their ability to create an energetic and fun filled experience, and simultaneously a personal and intimate one.
