Carrie and TaylorIt’s always hard to share nominees with you, when we are talking about awards like iHeat Radio, or the GRAMMY awards.  That is because both of these are pretty much all-genre awards, and we really try to single out the country categories to share with our readers.  However, when you get to a category like Female Artist of the Year, you know it is going to include all-genre, so you are getting Carrie Underwood, Adele, Meghan Trainor, Selena Gomez and Taylor Swift all in that category.  The Best Male Artist of the Year award category includes Luke Bryan, and a lot of other genre performers.

But, here is what we would like to share with all of you.

Zac Brown 065
Country Song of the Year

“Buy Me a Boat” – Chris Janson
“Homegrown” – Zac Brown Band
“I See You” – Luke Bryan
“Lose My Mind” – Brett Eldredge
“Take Your Time” – Sam Hunt

Luke Bryan Greene County
Country Artist of the Year

Blake Shelton
Brad Paisley
Luke Bryan
Sam Hunt
Thomas Rhett

Song of the Year includes one by Taylor Swift (if anyone still considers her country). and we already told you that Carrie is the only artist in the Female Artiist of the year group, and Luke Bryan is the only country artist who made the Male Artist of the Year category. Best New Artist includes one country artist, Sam Hunt (who is also up for Country Artist of the Year); and Best Duo/Group of the year puts Zac Brown Band up against Fall Out Boy, Maroon 5, One Direction and Walk the Moon.

Garth 46Album of the Year – again, no one I really consider country was nominated – Taylor Swift got another nod there. Best Tour brings out country’s best, with nominations going to Garth Brooks, Luke Bryan, and once again, Taylor Swift.

Thomas Rhett 103Zac Brown Band is nominated for Rock Song of the year for “Heavy in the Head,” featuring Chris Cornell. The award for Best Lyrics, which is a ‘Socially Voted Category’ has one country song in the running, “Die a Happy Man,” by Thomas Rhett.

Best Collaboration and Best Cover Songs, also Socially Voted Categories, include only Taylor Swift. Again, someone I don’t consider country, but thought I’d mention her nominations for t hose of you who do.

And if you can believe this, Best Fan Army has NO country artists nominated!  I am more than familiar with the fans and followers of LOCASH, Meghan Linsey, Thompson Square, Scotty McCreery, and on and on the list goes – and  just can’t believe the only mention of a ‘country’ artist in this category was Taylor Swift’s Swifties. Seriously? There are a lot more great country music fans out there who are working very hard for their artists. Difficult for me to believe that only Taylor’s fans got a mention here.

To find out who else was nominated, and who wins, catch the iHeart Radio Awards on April 3, broadcast live on TBS, TNT and truTV, and on iHeartMedia radio stations and the iHeartRadio digital music platform.  The show will begin at 8 p.m.

If you aren’t already following us on Twitter, we’d love to have you. You will find us @countryschatter.  And, we’re on periscope, too. Hope you will add us to your Periscope list so you can check our live broadcasts form shows, radio remotes, or whatever.
