DSCN3268When you only get one opening night at your local fair, there is an easy way to turn it into TWO opening nights.  The way you do that is bring two great country artists out on stage, one at a time.  That is exactly what our Appalachian Fair did on Monday, Aug. 21.  They opened their fair with what just might turn out to be the best night of the week.  We had Chris Lane at 7 p.m., followed by Eric Paslay, who took the sage at somewhere between 8:15 and 8:30 pm.  I really thought I could tell you all about both of these shows in one post, but that is not going to happen.

We will start with Chris Lane.  Chris was our opener tonight.  And, I have to admit I was pleasantly surprised.  I had seen Chris before.  About five years ago, he was the opener for Florida Georgia Line, at this same fair. I knew I liked him then, and I’ve been paying a lot of attention to his music since. “For Her” became one of my favorite songs the first time I heard it.

What surprised me about Chris this time around was how much he has grown as a performer.  He wasn’t just playing for his audience last night, he was playing to his audience.  There was more of an artist-fan connection, and there was definitely a more confident Chris Lane.

Marc and ChrisHe is as pleasant a person as you could ever want to meet.  Before his show, he took a few minutes to join WXBQ on-air personality Marc Tragler for a live interview.  Not every artist is willing to come out and do that.  A few fans were near the radio tent to watch the interview.  Chris was very friendly, and had no objections to photographs being taken while he talked to Marc.

We listened to Chris Lane songs like “For Her”, “Fix” and “Broken Windshield”, we also got to hear him do songs others made famous.  And, they were great.  He sang songs from many different genre’, by many different artists.  His covers of Tim McGraw’s “Something Like That”, and Alan Jackson’s “Chattahoochee” were right up  my alley.  While I watched the younger fans (of which there were many), jump up and down to his rendition of bon Jovi’s “Livin’ on a Prayer”, and Nsync’s “Bye, Bye, Bye”.  Chris also gave us Bruno Mars “24K Magic”, Backstreet Boys, “I Want it That Way”, and Usher’s “DJ Got Us Fallin’ in Love”.  You left the fairgrounds pretty much convinced that Chris Lane and sing anything he puts his mind to.

ChrisIn addition to his website, visit his Facebook page, and remember to ‘Like and Follow” while you are there.  He has several other social media links listed on his website, so be sure to check those out as well.  And, you can follow him on Twitter @iamchrislane. If you are not already following Country’s Chatter on Twitter, we’d love to have you.  You will find us @countryschatter.

We’re going to close this out with a few more photos from Monday night’s show.  Will include a few of the band members, too.  Unfortunately I did not get their names while Chris was doing the introductions from the stage.  I just don’t write fast enough for that.  And, as often happens when there are two acts on the main stage at the fair, Chris and his group pulled out as soon as Eric’s show was done, so I didn’t have an opportunity to get the names then either.  But, you can at least get a look at this group of very talented musicians.
