The duo, comprised of Bryan Edwards and Hope Nix, are each experienced singer-songwriters in their own right. Bryan and Hope initially joined forces as songwriters, but the chemistry was undeniable. The two quickly started performing together – The rest, as they say, is history!

Ordinarily, when I get a new album to review, I put it in the CD player the minute it arrives.  I listen to it while I’m doing whatever it was I was doing at the time. But, it isn’t very often that I start listening to the new album, and immediately drop whatever I was working on so I can write a review.  That happened with the new self-titled album from the country duo, Indigo Summer.  This is just good music.  I’m not going to say good ‘country’ music, because when I do that I give people the impression that it is ‘traditional’ country…the kind of music we older folks grew up with.

That’s not what you are going to get with Indigo Summer.  This is without doubt a country/pop duo.  But, they are just so much better than good.  You put the album on, and you don’t want to turn it off.

The album starts with “Ah Yeah”.  This one might bring the Kelsea Ballerini song, “Yeah, Boy” to mind.  Bouncy melody, fun lyrics, a little bit of “Ah Yeah” tossed in here and there.  Hope takes the lead vocals in this one, which is something else this duo does great.  Either one of them can take the lead and run with it.

After “Ah Yeah” you get “Lookin’ Like That”.  If you start listening with the expectation that each song is going to be just as good as the one before it, you won’t be disappointed.  This is another uptempo song.  Another fun lyric, with a catchy melody.  Not the kind I usually sing along with, but definitely the kind I want to listen to.

Now we slow it down, just a little bit, with the third song “Wants What it Wants”. This isn’t a slow song.  Might fall into that ‘mid-tempo’ category.  In the first two, you find  you are listening to the lyric, just because you do.  In this one, I found myself wanting to listen to the lyric.  I didn’t want to miss anything.  Bryan and Hope wrote this one, and obviously the write together as well as they sing together.  I’ll put the full track list a little farther down, along with the songwriters.

21616122_1950432148571180_4500819868981388903_nI’m not going to try to tell you about every song on the album, but did want to mention “Something You Miss”.  This is a slow song.  And again, was written by Bryan and Hope, with the help of Colby Dee.  You just can’t go wrong with a lyric like ‘I don’t know how to be something you miss’.  I’m guessing they started with that, and what they ended up with is another great song.

“Girl Like You” is pretty much Bryan’s song.  And, it is a summer song for sure.  You get Hope’s vocals, too.  These two have some of the best harmonies, and their voices just work well together.  They are both very talented vocalists, so you can only imagine that with you put these two greats together, the result is going to be incredible.

I am usually always able to pick a favorite song on a new album.  And, I always tell you which one I would pick for them to be the next single.  the one they ship to country radio. I can’t do that this time.  Because every one of them is good.  And, every one of them is ready to ship to radio!

“Hate Loving You” is the slowest song on the album.  And, I will have to say it is certainly a favorite (as if they aren’t all).  As in “Girl Like You,” the harmonies in this song are amazing.  These two are so very talented.  The are the perfect combination, and seem to be everything country music fans are looking for.
