From Reynoldsville, Pa., to Nashville, Tenn., Ellen Starski embarked on a musical journey that took her from the backwoods of her small hometown to a recording studio in Music City. Country’s Chatter is stepping way outside our comfort zone with this article. But, music is music. And, while we are 99.9% a country music website, we know that many of our readers don’t just listen to country.
Keeping that in mind, we’ve been wanting to share Ellen’s music with all of you since we were first introduced to her a few months ago. We have had the longest, busiest summer/fall season. But, now that things winding down (just a little bit) for us, it seemed the perfect day to pop Ellen’s CD back in the player, and let you all know what we were listening to.
While Ellen describes her album, “The Days When The Peonies Prayed For The Ants,” as ‘alternative pop with an Americana feel to it’, we heard a lot of soul and even a touch of jazz in the songs. With soothing, relaxing vocals and quiet melodies that seem to linger long after the song ends, each slow to mid-tempo song seems to carry a thought-provoking message,
Ellen took her Album Launch Show back to Western Pennsylvania, where she told The Courier Express in an interview, “One reviewer said that it was its own genre, which is a very big compliment, but also intimidating. I’ve done other albums, but this is my first true album, kind of like a debut album, that I’ve writen in the last couple of years”. We don’t know who that reviewer was, who implied Ellen has found a new genre’, but we agree with him. Her music is unique, and she is definitely in a class of her own.
