Oklahoma Red Dirt artist, Jake Flint, is pleased to announce the release of his debut single, “Cowtown” to TX/Red Dirt radio. “Cowtown” was written by Flint and co-produced by Flint and renowned Oklahoma artist/producer, Mike McClure. Fans can purchase the single at iTunes.
Flint, the son of a wildcat oilfield man and a hardworking mother of two, originally hails from Holdenville and is now based in Tulsa. As a youngster, Flint was exposed to many diverse musical genres by his family. His older sister’s tastes included 90’s grunge artists such as Nirvana, Pearl Jam, and the Foo Fighters, while his father’s music collection was everything from John Denver to Dire Straits and Texas singer/songwriters Guy Clark, Townes Van Zant, and Steve Earle. Later on, as Flint came into his own as a performer and songwriter, all of these diverse artists and styles had a big impact on his musical identity.
When Flint’s father was diagnosed with Lou Gehrig’s disease and was unable to interact with his son physically, he hired a few friends to teach the young man to play guitar. Soon after, Flint began writing his own music, tapping into his influences from the Texas and Oklahoma Red Dirt music scene including singer/songwriters’ Bob Childers, Tom Skinner, Jason Boland, Cody Canada, Mike McClure, and Chris Knight among countless others. Flint writes from a place of complete transparency about his personal life experiences – from heart break, to overindulgence, to breaking the law – his lyrics are as honest and exposing as it gets.
Jake’s first album, entitled, I’m Not OK, was produced by McClure at Boohatch Studio in Ada, Oklahoma. The influences of the Great Divide and Cross Canadian Ragweed are prevalent, just as Flint intended. Flint maintains a schedule of performances in and around Oklahoma, Texas, and surrounding states. Whether he performs acoustically or with a band you can always count on a Jake Flint show to be a high-octane fuel-driven performance.
Working under the guidance of new management, publicity and radio promotion teams, Flint is poised to take the next step on his musical journey and is excited about everything that lies ahead.
