In our article about Ricky Skaggs, we briefly mentioned Carson Peters.  We would like to tell you more about that young fiddler player now, and about his show at the Appalachian Fair.  Carson had the opportunity to open for Ricky, and also joined Ricky on stage during his show later that evening. Ricky and Carson performed two songs together. Carson joined in on the songs “Blue Moon of Kentucky” and “Wheel Hoss”.

Carson is 14 years old.  He started playing the fiddle when he was 3.  When he was 4 years old, he was playing in competitions and jamming at musical festivals.  He’s from Elizabethton, Tenn., not far from my home town, and we were fortunate to have him play at our church one Sunday evening.

A lot of you may remember Carson from his appearance on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.  He appeared on Steve Harvey’s television show, Little Big Shots, and made his Grand Ole Opry debut in 2014, at the age of 10.

Carson is a phenomenal fiddler player. Along with his band, Iron Mountain, they put on a show at the Appalachian Fair on Thursday night (Aug. 23), that had the entire audience cheering.

USE 22On stage with Carson were band members Ben Marshall, bass; Austin Tate, mandolin; Eric Marshall, banjo, and Jamie Peters, guitar. Bluegrass fans need to visit Carson website, find out where he will be performing and make plans to be part of this audience.  He’s an amazing fiddle player and a good vocalist.  I know that anyone who enjoys bluegrass and gospel music is going to love this band.
