The Damsel has been nearly eight years in the making, and takes a deep dive into unrequited love, family forgiveness and coming-of-age in your 20’s. Lunsford, who is perhaps best known as the frontwoman of Richmond funk/soul band, Erin & The Wildfire, has a love for personal storytelling – rooted in a deep history of family folk music – that is highlighted by her poignant lyrics and unforgettable vocal prowess. The ironic title of the album, The Damsel, is inspired by her personal growth and resolve to be a fierce friend, sister, daughter, activist and woman. “This album feels like a necessary nod to my musical upbringings and a simultaneous look forward to my next creative project,” elaborates Lunsford. “I have been writing music for my solo project for years before Erin & The Wildfire came along, but had never given my solo project any real attention. My bluegrass and Americana roots are hard to turn away from, so I decided to lean into it a little more.” The resulting compositions, which include self-styled guitar, banjo and keyboard melodies, are sure to please.

With her songwriting and vocal talents, Lunsford has received a number of awards and accolades. She was voted #1 Best Musician by C-Ville Weekly in 2019, selected as one of NPR Music‘s top Tiny Desk Contest performances in both 2018 and 2019 and included as one of Rolling Stone Country‘s “10 Best Things We Saw” at FloydFest2019, where she sang alongside Keller Williams and Leftover Salmon. Lunsford’s band Erin & The Wildfire opened for Marcus King Band, Sister Sparrow & The Dirty Birds and The Dip on 2019 tours. Solo, Lunsford has also opened for Darrell Scott, Love Canon, Bruce Hornsby, Carbon Leaf, Love Canon, The Village People, Leon Russel and more, and performed with the Grammy-award winning newgrass band, The Infamous Stringdusters, and Pimps of Joytime, among others.
