I have a few friends going to the Inaugural on Tuesday, and it’s not easy. They’re driving to Charlotte’s airport, parking their car in the lot there, flying to Dulles airport in Washington, D.C., getting the metro downtown (as soon as it starts running). The return trip will be even more difficult. They are going back to Dulles, renting a car (because they can’t get a flight back), driving to Charlotte to pick up their car and leave the rental car there, and then they’re coming back to Tennessee. Thanks to some local political friends, they have tickets to the main event. And, they have a camera with a very big lens (which might come in handy). They’ll be staying at a fairly nice hotel, and at this point, are just very thankful they have rooms.
Thanks to Adam Campbell, photographer at The Erwin Record, for the Obama photo. He took this photo at a campaign stop in Bristol, Va. this past October.
TMZ is reporting that Tim McGraw and Faith Hill just might have it a little easier as they head to Washington for this historic event.
Faith and Tim will be staying at the Ritz Carlton Hotel in Georgetown – and they’ll be in the Presidential Suite (probably because no one else could afford it). The suite is somewhere between $13 and $15 thousand a night, according to TMZ.
Actually, that price is somewhat of a deal, considering the hotel was offering that room for $99,000 for the night – that offer would have included not only the suite, but Gucci luggage, tickets to the Barack parade and one of the balls, along with four additional nights at the Ritz in the Grand Cayman. They probably didn’t want that deal because they’re too busy to go to the Caymans for four nights.
Look at that layout – they’ve got enough room for my friends to stay with them. I don’t know if the kids are going, but if they do,I know they’ll have a great time. Thinking back on my own childhood – I can’t even imagine what it would be like to be a little McGraw.
Enough for now. It’s Saturday, that means I won’t go in to the office (unless I want to), and it means I have to do laundry and grocery shopping – and all the stuff our “day off” requires. I’m still trying to figure out why it’s called a “day off” – I guess cause I don’t get paid for the work I do today. Ok, now I’m done complaining about housework, so I better get started on it.
You guys have a good weekend. Hope to hear for you soon.
