On Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2009, we watched Barack Obama take the oath of office, and become the 44th president of the United States.
That meant moving day for George and Laura Bush. Now that his term in office is over, and he had to leave the big white house on Pennsylvania Avenue, what would he find waiting for him back home.
What he found was a very warm welcome back to Midland, Texas. The welcoming committee included Rodney Atkins, Lee Greenwood and the Gatlin Brothers, plus many others. They performed at a Welcome Home rally for the former president.
Almost 20,000 tickets to the event were handed out. The welcome home celebration was held at Centennial Plaza (the town square).
Former President George H.W. Bush and Barbara Bush were traveling with George and Laura, but a spokesperson for the older Bush said he did not expect the parents to participate in the rally.
I’m sure everyone who did attend had a fantastic time. Would you all love to be rich? We wouldn’t have to work, we could hop on a jet and rush off to Texas because someone was going to be singing at a Welcome Home rally for a former president? That would be really neat … dream on, Country.
And now, before this very un-rich person gets ready to head off to the office, let me leave you with the one we probably all remember Lee Greenwood for most, “God Bless the U.S.A.” This video is from a live performance in 1985 – wow… He’s been doing that one a long time.
That’s all the time for now. Talk to you tomorrow.
