You guys have often heard me talking about awards shows – like every time one is on, or is about to be on, or when the nominees have been announced ….. yep, I watch awards shows. And,I definitely have my favorite ones. Those would be the ones where the fans have some role in the voting process. And now, the fans are going to get to do that with part of the Academy of Country Music Awards! And guys, it’s a good part.
For the first time, we (all the fans) will be voting for the Academy of Country Music Award’s Top New Artist Categories: Top New Male Vocalist, Top New Female Vocalist and Top New Duo or Group. Voting will begin on Friday, Feb. 13, and end Thursday, March 5, at www.gactv.com. (The nominees will be announced Wednesday, Feb. 11, in Nashville.)
The winners from each of those categories will be announced on March 9, and will compete in a new ACM Awards category – Top New Artist. Voting for that category will begin March 9 and end April 5, with the winner being announced live during the 44th Annual ACM Awards on April 5.
Going along with all this, GAC will air several TV specials that feature the nominees of each category, as well as a special on the winners. The first special, featuring each of the nine nominees, will be hosted by Jack Ingram and premiere on Feb. 20. The second, hosted by Sara Evans on March 19, will announce the winner of each category and present the artist with their award. Each winning artist will also perform on the special.
The ACM Awards will be broadcast live on CBS from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas Sunday, April 5, at 8 p.m. EST. The nominees will be announced Wednesday, Feb. 11, in Nashville.
I really don’t like that they have moved this event to a Sunday. WXBQ radio station always had a party – a major event for any listeners who wanted to attend. It was held at various locations (the last one was at Holiday Inn in Bristol, Va.), and they were great. There was food, and all kinds of door prizes, and of course our favorite on-air personalities were on hand to help with all of the evenings activities. And, we watched the awards show on big screen televisions placed around the hotel’s large ballroom. But, since the event moved to a Sunday (first time was last year, I believe) – now we don’t have our party anymore.
With 56 No. 1 records to his credit, George Strait certainly won’t be nominated in any “New” category at this year’s awards, but I like him – and when I was searching for past performances from ACM Awards shows on YouTube, I found this – so, have another look at a clip form the 2008 ACM show. It’s George, and “I Saw God Today.”
It was 7 degrees outside when I got up on Thursday morning. It was 8 degrees when I got up on Friday morning. And today (Saturday) – the weather forecast is telling us we’ll get to nearly 60. What a crazy winter.
Talk to you all soon!
